Superharged commodores

any good? pros or cons?

would use as an all rounder, some towing (couple of race bikes mostly) as well as being the main family car / hack to get to work and back

Good cars, only real things are, the thermostat is at the rear under the S/C and a real pain to change, also intake manifold gaskets seem to go a bit earlier than N/A engines. Listen for a noisy S/C as well, may indicate bearings are on the way out.

Thirstier than n/a with no appreciable gain in performance.

By all accounts they are easily tuned for better performance- apparently they were "detuned" from factory to maintain the v8 performance gap.

In standard form however they earned the slogan
"6cylinder performance with 8cylinder economy"

Produces less power and less torque (still!) than what a standard BA Falcon 4L does. Tad embarrassing that was.

The guy I know who had one then had an n/a engine fitted said no power difference.

Supercharged V8 Commodores can have increased tyre wear.

there is a difference. I still drive a n/a Version for work and have driven a supercharged version also. It wasn't overwhelming at all but there is an increase. Still- not that great certainly no better than newer 3.6 and not a patch on SIDI

Fit smaller drive pulley to the Sc & give it some real power .

interesting feedback, doesnt sound like its worth getting a S/C one then if im jut after something i can simply buy and drive with a bit of grunt
