sounds like you have a agetator . best you can do is bring it to the scrap metal and , then go and buy a miele front loader machine then you will ask here how to repair it in i would say 25 to 45 years somwhere after that. if you use the machine as per instructions plus your cloths will be ultra clean and not damaged during washing

gmphil, Dec 31, 8:59am
but we still repairing old car lol ?

intrade, Dec 31, 9:06am
there is a difference , you dont repair a mobile phone or do you?
let me expalin the difference.
in some cases new zealand was still in the stone age technology wise and still is but its getting better.
Top loader washing machines where abandoned in about the 1950s i dont know exactly as it was before i was born and only reliable front loader where in use when i grew up, i did find some old mechanism in our farmhouse i grew up and asked my dad what that wierd thing was lol
its how i know when they abandoned these agitators.
now a front loader washing machine lasts with 0 care 7 to 10 years with little care up to 15 years and that is the cheapest 400nz$ machine you can buy in europe . quality has gone down in the last years also and only miele is still 100% at this high quality component standard today.
its why i say buy a miele.

wind.turbine, Dec 31, 9:07am
not too sure about that machine but we have done bearings on f&p machines several times.

that have 2 bearings, you pull out agitator, and inner bowl,
then it is best to remove motor to avoid damaging it.
The on the motor side there is a nut on the shaft and the shaft should be able to be pushed upwards and out.

if the shaft is scored it will need replacing as well, also all seals need to be replaced as well.

again this is for a F&P machine. not sure if they are similar or not

now i dont know do you enjoy fixing crap then go for it but dont use it to wash cloths with , i had a fisher and pikle one my cloths all got damaged , i guess that dont matters when the crap cloths you buy only last 12 month anyhow.
i have cloths over 25 years old and still ok to wear because they got not damaged in my front loader machine i got from germany in about 2003 or so
my washing machine has a name from a shop named quelle they made there own rebranded things also have a gas cooker there brand name was privileg.
and that was the washing machine brand name our machine had when i was a kid lol so i knew its a good brand haha.
the privileg we had in my brothers rental was 10 years old when it failed a bearing , tenants had that machine going almost every day , i did back then repair th bearing on it and the seal i replaced it with a fully stainless bearing and when i was finished i said that bearing wont fail again even when water runs thru it lol
You know what its still going but it skipps washing steps now lol because the mechanism mechanical triggering divise is worn out and it washes all the programms now that it has.
So yea i said its time for a other one.
it lasted more then 20 years and thats a cheap one quelle is like farmers here where the machine came from.

intrade, Dec 31, 9:22am
they still exist lets see if i can get parts probably not now after 12 years i recon no one ever needed parts so they wont stock any.
https://www.privileg.de/ no but i found some guy with a problem lol http://forum.iwenzo.de/privileg-modell-5140-auslesenloeschen-des-fehlerspeichers--t44372.html
i had a problem once and fixed it , my problem was the waste hose was to far stuck in to the waste S bend so water would cause a backpressure and the machine claimed it had fluff filter full eben do it was empty and clean in there
the fix was to pull the hose up out of the S bend to where it should be not all the way shoved in to the bend.
if my machine is a goner i get me a miele also. 12 years now or so maybe more . power and water consumption is A class

gmphil, Dec 31, 9:25am
yea missus said this one 15 years done every day for 5 adult plus extended family as we have everybody elses kid now and then she good like that . but I splashed out lol this year in about go away in couple days finance bit tight till back work so thought for now at least so the grand parent left behind can still wash cloths lol .
il get young fella round take out side if can do today on scrap trailer it goes lol

tmenz, Dec 31, 9:38am
Presumably this is a Simpson Encore 605 machine that you have and not any sort of Fisher and Paykel (I don't think F&P ever made a 605!).
With a bit of luck, 'pamow69' will post on here and give you proper advice based on years of experience servicing such machines - without any waffle or ballocks.

If manage to get bearings out DONTgo to F&P agent it will cost at least 5 times the price , try engineering supplier first . . & at 12 years i wouldnt hold my breath of F&P having any parts . . I used to fix them but now even my own i take to scappy & buy anothe used 1 at half the price of repair , even a circuit board costs $150 trade

Bearings come out from under the bowl. You have to remove the top deck completely. Remove all underneath, motor, brake solenoid, pulley, clutch etc. Remove agitator & then the clamp holding inner bowl to top of gearbox. Remove inner bowl, then outer bowl. Remove lower plate, then pull gearbox out & then remove top plate to get at top bearing. Replace tub seal & bearings, then rebuild. Sounds a lot but not that hard once you get in to it. If you have broken the 10mm bolt holding the agitator, you will have a job on your hands trying to get the bolt out of the shaft, Good luck.

Is it worth replacing the bearing on a LG front loader about 8 years old?

bigfatmat1, Jan 1, 7:34am
I did this on a lg washer drier watched a youtube video took me 2 hrs piece of piss. Probably would of tripples my time if I didn't find a youtube video.

pamow69, Jan 1, 2:05pm
I have never personally done bearings on an LG front loader. Probably just the same as most other front loaders and not too difficult Is it worth it? Probably depends on the overall condition of the machine i.e. if full of rust and plastic parts starting to crack then no. If it still looks good then yes. First thing to find out is if the outer plastic bowl can be split in half to get the inner bowl out. You have to remove the top panel & look if the outer drum is held together with bolts or clips. If it is a solid complete drum then the whole drum assembly complete with bearings gets swapped out-very expensive. Next problem is getting the LG parts. You have to deal with an agent called Tradetech here in Auckland. They are one of the worst companies I have ever dealt with.

Simpson encores, you have to remove the agitator and then take all the bolts from the underside and pull the gearbox out which releases the bearing out the bottom. I wouldn't bother given you then have to source the bearing and seal and then glue it and reinstall the gearbox. If you don't seal it properly then it will leak, thus having to tip it over and do it all over again. Get rid of it and buy another machine.

Machine condition is good and the front panel is fine, electrics ok apart from the grinding and the bowl slopping around. Bearing kit is about $40 and a 2-3 hours labour.

pamow69, Apr 5, 4:10am
Sounds worth it then but I would of expected cost of 2 bearings and a tub seal to be a bit more than $40. That is a good price if you can get them for that. The only other thing to look for is the condition of the shaft & the 3 spider arms attached to the back of the inner spin bowl. Something you can't check until you pull the bowl out. The shaft can get deeply grooved where the seal sits and the spider arms which are made from cheap cast alloy can become corroded & weakened by the soap eating in to them. Most makes you can replace the spider shaft but not all. Some you have to but a new drum complete.
