Bridgeston RE003 vs Goodyear F1 asymmetric

nuberanda, Sep 11, 10:35am
Hey guys I have to get 4 new tires. The car is a Skoda Octavia 2005 2.0TDI that's driven mostly around town, but a bit open road as well. I can get the F1 for 165 each (on trademe) and the re003 for 187 each (4 for 3 special at Bridgestone). the size is 225/45/17 Has anyone have any experience with either? Any opinions are welcome .Thanks

I have Bridgestone RE002 and they are very good tires. Good traction, connering and braking performance in both wet and dry. Very quiet as well which is a nice surprise for performance tires. RE003 is supposed to be an improvement over RE002. I don't think you can go wrong with RE003.

Can't comment on Goodyear F1.

I suggest you go for some Dunlop Sportsmaxx RT (RT, not GT or TT)

I have found these to be an outstanding tyre, both in the dry and wet.

Have run the RE002 and F1 tyres previously, both did a fantasitc job of sticking to the road wet and dry, so i'd go with best deal to be honest.

I ran Goodyear F1s on a 300ZX some years back and they were an awesome tyre. 235/45/17 from memory but as I say, it was a few years back now.

I bought a second set of the tyres after the first set wore out.

Bridgestone 225/45R17 on my 07 Honda Civic and appear original, a little harsh riding but feel safe.

Just check they have more than one at that price. That is about half price.

I have the Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2's on my RX8 in 225/45R18 and they are epic.

Thanks for the input everyone. All the options seem to be good. I will probably end up going with the best deal between all the examples mentioned. To be fair these tires are a little overkill for this car, but I would prefer to have a little extra grip and not need it. I'll let you know what I get

I spent some time looking into them and got F1 directional 5s for my brother car. They are very good and have great reviews. I think the asymmetric ones should be good too.

Both are good and not overkill, I admire you for thinking about safer options than cheaper options, which are shown in a lot of tests to have increased braking distance etc

nuberanda, Sep 16, 12:39pm
Turns out they only had one of the Goodyear F1s, and wouldn'/couldn't get more at that price. So as I am typingt his the re003s are getting put on the car, I'll let you know how I find them compared to the old, worn out gt radials that the car came with once they wear in a little

Thought so. I paid about $330 a tyre for my Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2s.

fordcrzy, Sep 16, 4:45pm
why do you want such a performance tire just to bash around town?

clark20, Sep 16, 7:07pm
You are kidding right? Who would want safer tyres? nah none of us

fordcrzy, Sep 16, 8:31pm
i doubt a performance tire will make much difference at 50kph. open road canyon carving yes. but sitting in traffic jams and daily commute . no. re003's would last about 6 months on our car getting bashed around town, uneven tire wear etc.

clark20, Sep 16, 8:55pm
Ok have you driven a 2.0L TDI? So much torque off the line cheap tyres are unbearable, they just keep spinning

sw20, Sep 19, 9:58pm
Why would anyone spend more than $3000 on a car to 'bash around town' then with that logic?

Those bridgestones last good, Ive got about 25000km out of a set and counting. Reckon they will do about 35-40km by the time they are worn out. Real good tyres too and hardly more expensive than a mid range tyre.
