terry77.ta, Dec 23, 6:08pm
another wof question, do u need the inner gaurds fitted for a wof? the inner fender gaurds ? ive seen a few HQ etc feature cars in NZV8 that have wof stickers but no inners, ive secured all my wiring up under the outer gaurd lip, the fans are electric & mounted on front of radiator, the battery is in boot, cant think of any reason theyd knock me back? any1 know forsure? Cheers

I'd imagine that if it was in that condition when you had it certified it would not be an issue at wof time.

Na, no cert, just about to go for a wof after 8 year rebirth! reg been on hold, havent changed anything that will need to cert. mostly factory stock but have made a lot of improvements to suspention & painted or freshened up wot needed.

well, got failed by my wof guy, he reakons its part of the crumple zone of car, mentioned my NZV8 example but he reakoned they probally removed them after getting wof, hard to say but ill reattach them ova xmas break. failed on a couple other things but shouldnt be hard to sort, althow ive never changed a front driveshaft UNI, any1 got a hot tip?

bjmh, Dec 24, 4:53pm
d/shaft uni. jack up from the rear . then you won't loose g/b oil. when you get the d/shaft off, give it a wash around the u/j. kero whatever. put a bit of crc on circlips. tap one side so the cirlip moves around in the groove. Its fairly hard to explain how to get old joint out ,but a wack with a hammer on an old socket . you're trying to get the cross to force the cap with the rollers out https://youtu.be/rOEdul7nscY

That's sort've what I would'a said.
It's also part of the structural integrity.

Don't know why people want to do that? But I don't wear a cap backwards either.

my valiant has no inner guards it has a cert but does not say anything on the cert plate about them .and on the valiant its a welded in part not bolt in like a holden .

HQ, Inner guard, crumple zone you are kidding, right (o:

grangies, Dec 24, 8:09pm
You could try the argument that the HQ sits on a separate chassis.

Hopelessly weak chassis that it is. But the law may allow it if you look right into it.

Also, have you got any links to the NZV8 articles with the cars with the inner guards removed?. You may find they've done a few extra body mods that aren't obvious in the photo's.

twit7, Dec 24, 8:29pm
yes thats true i have two inch bars from the chassis to the fire wall .

Funny init.

Ive never worn a cap backwards either but when i open the bonnet & see painted wishbones & new suspention with a chromed & alloy polished V8 sitting there, i dont mind the veiw, must admit with the road works this time of year, picking off sum tar & stones sucks! engine does run alot cooler thow as there seems to be a fair bit of air flow around it so thats 1 advantage! thinking of getting the inners chromed or at least powder coated so it will still make engine bay look good.

Thanx bjmh (Bruce), got uni done with that guidance, done rear 1 also so wasnt such a scarey job after all!

terry77.ta, May 2, 5:35am
Looked in2 NZV8 articles & all the photos i could google but in the end was told that i would need to get a modification cert to run without the inners, eazier ,less painfull to just reattach them, (8 bolts ea side.) as for the weak chassis, i concider the Holden subframe far superior to anything the Yanks did, its stronger than the 1 in my 79 Firebird & the Holden 1 tonner full chassis is gotta be 1 of the best eva made! mass production wise anyway, mind u, i am talking the WB series which from HZ onwards really was a great base for any project. Cheers
