Had a customer with a Vespa 180SS back in the "60's & took it for a lap around town after doing [something] probably gear cables & hell did it 'go well'. Remember commenting it'd accelerate as hard [or soft lol] as my bsa B33. Handling was questionable but suppose you have to be bought up on them to know them [give me a Lambretta! ].

thanks folks. i am finding your comments really helpful

A friend has a scooter which she wants to sell (doesn't use it any more).
it is a
vMoto Milan

is it cheap and cheerful. or a dud which shouldn't be touched?

PS: the need is to travel 6km on suburban streets a few times a week (so not large kms)

Technical pedantic's time
Scooter + car licence is 49cc with a top speed of 49kph
Over 49cc requires a MOTORBIKE licence & wof

It's rounded up to help stop confusing ppl.

I had a 06 suzuki 50cc 2 stroker did 65kph downhill or 60 on flat 2stroke the way to go quicker off the mark compared to 4stroke.only downside is the oil usage

I suspect given where you live you may find you will use it a lot more often if you have a decent scooter. I found I would always favour the scooter over my car when the weather was good if shooting in to town. It's just so much quicker and easier when you don't have to find and pay for a park. I would even do my supermarket shopping on the scooter.

I would still go with the Liberty. If you absolutely insist on having a 50cc then still the Liberty 50, but realistically as I said the 150 is going to be significantly safer and far more useful.

Up to you though, I can only speak of my experience doing the same. Best of luck with it.

Just in case you weren't listening. 125 cc Yamaha tricity ride on car licence only.

Cheap and cheerful. Not a dud. Not a high quality item but they are a huge manufacturer making millions of these and you should, I imagine, be fine for parts.
If it is cheap and good go for it, sure you can spend more and get something better, but it's no dud.

mrfxit, Aug 6, 9:17pm
How did they manage that?
Was there a law change which in that case it would include all 125cc bikes.
Doesn't seem right.

Would it have something to do with it having 3 wheels? Maybe

Good luck duckmoon. I happily rode one in Palmerston North & Wanganui & other smaller places for a couple of years.

But once we moved to Wellington TBH it was too bloody scary and I barely used it unless there were no buses for my work roster. Just had far too many near misses with the buses living around Hataitai & Mt Vic, CBD etc. They come flying around corners in the middle of the road and even with defensive driving it was hair raising.

But they are cheap to run, free to park (they were) but given I again live on a very steep hill I wouldn't again, with the wind and wet and narrow roads it would not be ideal. For me would depend entirely on where I was planning to ride, out the Hutt perhaps I woulnd't mind so much except in worst weather.

Even if you only need a car licence, I'd do a handling course if you can and so many people just don't see you even in high viz. Never had to drop mine but it came close because the Mt Vic Buses take the entire road width when they come round the corners on the summit route and if you are going downhill in the wet with nowhere to go. yeah nah.

Agree you want power with the hills, I had an old but refurb'd 70's V50 Yamaha (it was the 90's lol), had 3 gears so gruntier than the newer ones back then, but still struggled with the hills a bit.

Maybe, no idea without digging a lot deeper

Just buy a mid '90s Toyota Corolla for around $2000-$2500. You will stay dry. You can use it on the motorway. You don't need to outlay $$$$ for riding gear.

Have you ever paid to park a car in Wellington?

The Scooter is a far better financial proposition and for most running, far more practical and efficient.

If they lived in Tauranga I would be more inclined to agree with you.

quickbuck, Aug 9, 9:24am
I race. It is part of the sport.

kazbanz, Aug 9, 11:10am
I can't be bothered digging. Can you tell me how you can ride a 125cc bike on a car licence.--- Go back and reread my question but put a grin on your face when you read it so you know theres no barb in the question.--I genuinely have not heard of a scooter bigger than 50cc being allowed to be ridden on a car licence.

MAAATE--Things have come a LONG way since the old FFM/Pro days.
The quality of the gear you can now buy for sod all is pretty amazing.
The level of IMPACT protection built into most of the Kevlar stuff is up equal to the leathers I see most guys doing track days/race days in.
keeping in mind its the shredding effect that's going to rip that stuff to pieces and at 50k TOP speed theres very little of that.
Next time you are out n about do a comparison between the foam/plastic built into your leathers and that now in these water resistant Kevlar suits.
you will be blown away.
That said--On the track at 200k plus I will stick with my tiger angels thank you kindly

Great thanks
