Silverstream rail bridge

Silverstream railway bridge has just been struck by an over height truck for the THIRD TIME in recent months.

How hard is it to get a truck license? Do you have to be reasonably competent?

They need to get cameras near that bridge.
One persons ignorance causes a lot of hassles for a lot.

When I worked for a topdressing Co, it wasn't uncommon for any driver to be driving all sorts of loaders, and when a new model arrived on the scene, the folded booms were much higher than any previous trucks. Hence, there were a number of bridges that they wouldn't fit beneath, and I ripped around the countryside taking note of the clearances of various bridges, and advised the drivers where they couldn't go.

I had made a suggestion that the clearance height of every truck should be displayed on the dash so drivers could correlate on the run.
It wasn't done - I don't work there any more, so it wasn't followed up - and only one of those informed drivers still exists.

I'm only guessing here, because it was a number years ago, but think only bridges under 4.2 mts need to have clearance signs.

T Also the pedestrian overbridge at Melling higher in middle than sides . Silverstream rail bridge was built long before 40 ft hi top containers & there is a rise just past it

You would think that professional drivers would be interested in their vehicles and know the dimensions. I guess for some people it is just a job.
I know my tractor is 4.4m tall with the post rammer on, really gotta watch power and phone lines, particularly those on private land that aren't maintained to the same standards as the ones crossing roads.

Best effort I have seen by a dopey truck driver is 7 sets of powerlines taken out all the way into town. That was a grain truck that drove off with his auger still sticking way up in the air. Their insurance company would have got a very big bill.

Yea the farken R tard who designed/authorised that bridge needs a bullet in the forehead, who the fark would allow a bridge 100mm lower than the legal height of a truck to be built.
FYI before you call the drivers . whatever you should know legal height for trucks is 4.25 they are BUILT this high, The bridge is 4.15. google map it if you want.
So any truck that hits it is NOT overheight.
Bridges under 5.1 have signs on them.
