What caused the gasket to blow ? As that still needs to be attended to !

,radiator cap apparently was rooted causing it to overheat, have brought a new one.

Used Chemiweld in an L300 with cracked head for 3 years no problems. The trick is to get the system sealed using it per instructions and then run the radiator with no pressure on it. I simply cut off the overflow return valve on the radiator cap so that the radiator was always full and the overflow bottle level rose and fell as the coolant temperature changed. Ignore the experts who will say the car will overheat. It will not overheat unless there is another problem will the cooling system or unless you drive it really hard in very hot conditions. If you cannot afford an engine change then this is a low cost effective solution until you can afford a permanent repair, such as replacing the car.

I have had better results with copper based sealers such as Rislone liquid copper, available from SCA

Im not sure if the radiator cap can cause overheating, although it might have built up to much pressure causing a leak and the lack of water could cause overheating

And in saying that I let my L300 run low on water cause of a broken water pipe and it started to heat and blow severe steam out the exhaust. I used chem weld with total success,,

If it was letting the water blow up everywhere it would do the trick.

Has to be worth a crack, and as in post #4 follow the instructions closely.

I used liquid copper on an audi, it fixed the gasket but sealed the thermostat shut, had to back flush to release it, all good since, saved $$$

as long as you are going to keep the car. AND not try and onsell it to some poor unsuspecting person. worth the effort. but try RISLONE.

SealWell from BNT works and its low priced as well. No need to flush out the anitfreeze either.
Give it a go if it don't work all you have lost is about $10

Chemiweld works on cracks, but doesn't seem to like sealing blown gaskets operating against compression.

good quote. there isnt much that can get into cracks when pressure is trying to force it back out. comes down to where water is going and why?. a crack on an inlet side. maybe. a crack on an exhaust side.?. no. if its a gasket then prety much . NO.
