Some names remembered, some never heard of.

Oh such a long long trip from Fort Caughtly ( North Shore ) to Waiouru loaded with beer and towing a generator behind.

we don't say lorries in nz. that's a gay pommy word.

survivalkiwi, Apr 3, 4:26pm
When my oldest son was little we had to call them lorries because he could not say truck properly. And he was obsesed by them. It could be a bit embarassing at times.

tintop, Apr 3, 4:48pm
Is that so? - Well I never knew that.
Reminds me of something.

Si Senore Dardego
40 Loris Inaro.

vetus lorries optima sunt

socram, Apr 3, 5:26pm
So just because its a pommy word, it is gay? Lorry has always been the correct term for the UK and Ireland. Even a UK driver would know that nz should be NZ. !

mouse265, Apr 3, 6:19pm
Our son always pronounced truck with an f but we knew what he meant and he would shout it out because he had a few rides in them

bmc460, Apr 4, 10:27am
Lorries sounds better as people keep calling utes trucks so ya never know what anyone is talking about. A lorry should be a truck and ute a ute, not a truck.

seadubya, Apr 4, 10:42am
I am a 4th generation kiwi and I know what a lorry is without having to go near any gentlemans sausages.
Are you a phobe? Do you buy only new things so that you can be certain that gayness hasn't seeped into your things? What if your new stuff was built by the gays?

bowla3, Apr 4, 11:14am
I was in the transport game most of my working life and never ever drove a lorry!
Bit of rubbish I picked about 50 years ago.
See Senor, see them go,
All them lorries in a row.
Them's not lorries, them's are trucks,
Full of chooks and geese and ducks.

The English language has more words than any other, which is what
makes it a delight and good writers make it even more interesting. Only the stupid spelling lets it down.

We are all aware of the differences between the American terms and the English, but that doesn't make, bonnet, boot, wings or bumpers gay, so quite why 'lorries' is gay doesn't make any sense at all. Says more about the poster methinks.

The one I saw was in the form of a business card. All came clear once I sorted the first line :)

A lot of the lorries were connected with the 'country fair' or circus business - That makes them happy and g g g g . delightful. :)

And apart from that the name of the video used the word 'Lorry'
I bet they did not drive on metal roads though.

Love to be able to take you back in time & have you tell that to one of the drivers.

woody1946, Apr 6, 2:52pm
We should just call them a camion, Lastkraftwagen, vrachtwagen, or ???????

bowla3, Apr 6, 7:03pm
You can call them what you wish in any foreign country or language, but in my country which is NZ. 99% of normal people use English

intrade, Apr 6, 7:07pm
