Unless your car starts smoking, running rough or stalls completely its likely to be something minor like an Oxygen or Airflow Sensor, no biggy especially if it goes away, can be ignored for a few days.

don't subarus have a cold engine light? ie - a light that stays on until engine's warm

tony9, Jan 14, 11:09am
What colour is the vehicle?

pattym1, Jan 14, 11:10am
this wins stupid thread of the day. you are an embarrassment to women. is your light shaped like a little oil can?

this one?

look on the rego sticker what year your car is
if it is this light then the light is illuminating when the engine can not controll things any more there is limmits the computer of the car has power over and when its passing the limmits means there is a problem and the check engine light is on . when it manages to gain controll over the function the light turns off again.
thst is the most simple explenation i can give you for why the light is on and off if it looks like this

brapbrap8, Jan 14, 12:03pm
Go to your nearest car mechanic and ask them what it means, might be quicker and easier.
PS, I wouldn't be posting my phone number to the weirdos on here.

melp6, Jan 14, 12:04pm
Yup, I agree

Maybe not to the weirdo part, but just in general

.jillybeen., Jan 14, 12:11pm

Not sure why there are some moronic replies in this thread when OP states it is the engine check light on the first post. And regardless of the year, make or model or colour, the answer is the same. Check engine lights come on for a few reasons, the only way to know is to get the fault checked by someone who can retrieve the fault code.

intrade, Jan 15, 5:50am
someone who can retrieve the fault code
and not by some morons who think codes are parts to be exchanged like 98% of diy mechanics and about 60% of so called professionals
codes are a symptom and get stored because the computer is not able to controll - correct what the code relates to.

kazbanz, Jan 15, 8:16am
Im sorry but actually its you who has embarrassed yourself.
If you took the time to read the OP properly you would have read that the ENGINE check light comes on sometimes and the OP is concerned about it.-With good cause as she intends to travel soon.

kazbanz, Jan 15, 8:22am
Your concern is justified IMO.Take the car to a decent mechanic and ask them to scan the codes. On the basis of that scan you can then make an educated decision to carry on with your planned trip or not.IE you'll know if its a minor problem that can be fixed later or if its an indication of a major issue about to happen
-IMO--I would NOT base my decision to travel on the opinion of anyone here as odviously its impossible to scan a car over the internet.

fiatracer, Jan 15, 8:25am
actually, she says "there is a engine lite tht comes on when im drivn and stays there for awhile then goes off ".

Not necessarily the check engine light, or even necessarily a red oil warning light. I have posted info about the Subaru-specific blue warning light that comes on until engine warm. Still waiting to rule out that simple thing.

kazbanz, Jan 15, 8:37am
point being a visit to a mechanic will sort the matter.
Incidently the blue light isn't Subaru specific :-)

fiatracer, Jan 15, 10:43am
oh, only place I've seen it and only because that's what rental co. gave me. I try to void driving subarus and the like.

afer_daily, Jan 15, 10:49am
this thread is better than Tinder

kazbanz, Jan 15, 12:45pm
yea be carefull--those dogs you drive will be able to smell the scent of decent jap car and will likely bite you the next time you drive one of em.

cummingsra1, Jan 25, 5:28am
A visual guide to what those warning lights mean. LOL
