1994 celica fan not working

familiadude, Jan 8, 7:57pm
Hey guys I've got a 1994 celica but for some reason neither of the fans work(found this out the hard way today) checked the sensor in the bottom of the radiator and bridged the terminals as if you do this it is supposed to run constantly on however this didn't happen any idea as to what could be the problem? Thanks

Does having AC on make a difference?

skiff1, Jan 9, 8:11am
Ha, I thought this thread was about how fans of the 1994 cel ice were generally unemployed

well you want to look at the wiring diagramm as to how it is wired and if you get power to the fan motor when its suposed to be on
bridging a fan on sensor is tricks from the 1980s i dont know if that works on a 94 car it sure wont work on a late 90s european car they have moved on from 80s technology a long time by then, so looking at the wiring diagram is the only way to find out what and where to test to find the problem. of course you might need to know what your looking at on a wiring diagramm but if you intend to do your own work you better learn that as the new stuff where the radio volume gets turned down when you use rverse gear for example that will be real complicated to even correctly fit a other radio.

If fans don't work with ac. Chances are its a power supply maybe relay fault You don't need wiring diagrams ect pull the 3 relays out and check for power on pin 30 if there is power there bridge it out to pin 87

Isnt the switch a single wire one on the motor? You pull it off and the fan runs.

familiadude, Jan 10, 6:16am
No andrew its not a single wire switch however when i tried bridging the connections on the switch the fans still didnt work. Thanks mat will give that a go

Long shot but run separate power to each fan to ensure they actually work. I have had fans clap out before especially if they are on all the time (Faulty sensors etc)

Turn air co on and using multi-meter test voltages at fans.

familiadude, Jan 10, 12:28pm
I know for sure the bigger of the two fans definately works as I have wired that one to run full time until i sort this issue out

familiadude, Jan 10, 12:32pm
Also just took out the relay that says FAN 1 and turned the car on and used a test light there is no power to anything with the car in the "ON" position or am I doing something wrong?

familiadude, Jan 10, 12:54pm
have checked all the fan relays like this and none of them have power any ideas?

bigfatmat1, Jan 10, 1:45pm
Is there power at the fan plugs with key on. In case it's earth switching? If not you have a power supply fault ie blown fusable link or broken wire

familiadude, Feb 21, 7:04pm
all fuseable links look fine no power at either plug with the ignition turned on. what a major pain in the butt. Reckon it'd just be easier to setup this http://www.supercheapauto.co.nz/online-store/products/Davies-Craig-Pty-Ltd-Thermatic-Fan-Switch-0401-12V-24V.aspx?pid=6614 otherwise if I send it to an auto electrician thatll be atleast that cost just for an hours labour
