When did that come in to existence
When did Vin certs come in to existence

We have a motorbike here that nzta can't locate any details for via the chassis numbers.

The Customs Import Entry Rules (1997) came into effect in July 1997, mandating that chassis numbers be shown on Customs import entries.
Whether the Customs broker actually did it is another story.
It is possible to search the database for a chassis number. email [email protected] with the chassis number and ask for a Nexus search back to 1997.

LTSA (as it was then) began issuing their own VIN numbers to imports and reregistered cars already here in mid 1994. Many vehicles that had cancelled regos prior to about 1992 or so had their records lost in that era due to a computer system change, it's highly important to have the original rego certificate or at least know what the plate number and chassis codes were when trying to reregister.

Thanks ppl, it's what I suspected was the case for a lot of 'those' early dereg'd vehicles.

This bike seems like it was imported solely for the track & never reg'd for the road.
It was apparently an 88 model but has added body covers that suggest a bit later.
Will contact the local franchise with the engine/ chassis numbers & see if they can pinpoint the exact model & year.
Police & NZTA have cleared it as untracable, meaning that no action can be taken or found through the courts
