I just bought a car and it has a panasonic strada sound/navigation system which looks amazing but the whole thing is in Japanese. I am thinking about replacing it with an English one.
What is a really good headunit to get?
my preference is: - double din - must play music from usb/aux - nice user interface (touch screen might be good)
nice to have: - gps navigation(preferably with 3d maps) - Accelerometer or features similar to the torque app built in?
Any reccomendations on brands etc?

To be honest all of the "name " brand radios will have units that do what you NEED. ie - double din - must play music from usb/aux - nice user interface (touch screen might be good) So Sony,JVC,Panosonic will do that. They are all about on Par with quality. about $400 ish installed Start adding in GPS and the price heads up pretty fast. Then you move up to about $8-$1500 -sorry haven't seen 3d maps or accelerometer. Thing is though that for decent sound quality you need a decent speaker setup. So I would get your current radio set to 88.6 and crank the volume up. If you get distortion from half volume then the speaker set up needs to be sorted

I am a Sony guy and so would go with one of their double din touch screen units with the GPS and reversing camera features. Most units these days have Bluetooth handsfree as standard

Just have a look a Supersheep auto etc, they will have them all plugged in and running on the wall so you can see what looks good to you.

Thanks for all the replies. They are all extremely useful!
What are your opinions on this? Is there somebody that can do this in Wellington (or even anywhere in NZ?)

Unless you drive the car every day the battery in the tablet is going to end up flat too often - very annoying as something like a Nexus 7 take an eternity to boot

I'd just grab any head unit with bluetooth and a smartphone mount TBH

MMG---that would be illegal. Only an issue if you got caught but you cant have movie screen visible to the driver when driving.

Might be what i end up doing. WIll this mean that i lose my reversing camera? I assume that the camera can be hooked up to the new system that i get?

Probably - most of them are just an RCA connection which most head units with screens should support okay
