THIS! It is the buyer that is meant to do it but now when I sell a vehicle before I hand the keys over I go online and change it over to the buyers details, depending on the price I sell it for I usually just wear the $9 charge myself. Just better for my own peace of mind.
We recently sold a Civic to sons work mate (my wife did the deal at home) and she didn't change it over, she did the sellers form though. He never changed it into his name, now he hasn't done the rego on it since he bought it and can't get rego because it isn't in his name? (I'm only getting the story 4th hand, not sure exactly if the rego has been cancelled or what exactly is going on)

You can do it here. takes a few minutes. You need your licence handy, and a credit or debit card to pay the $9 fee.

BTW, this has nothing to do with ownership and does not indicate title. This is about identifying the registered person for the vehicle - the person that cops licensing fees and fines etc.
