It's a lovely example of the old Zodiac no question, but I've personally never liked the Mk4. Now the Mk3 on the other hand. mmmmmm!

I'm from Matamata, wasn't too many V6 ones left over there, just about all V8's, 3 day turn around for the basic repower back in the day.

I thought it was a Zodiac as the Zephyr's had bench seats. Well the ones we had did. All three of us learnt to drive in a Mark IV Zephyr. Dad still has a Mark IV Zodiac in the shed. Unfortunately it's been stripped down to the shell and I have no idea if everything is still there. Cousin's toe rag kid and his mate helped themselves to some stuff a while ago.

That V6 was an extra 2 cylinders worth of trouble and expense than the V4 from the Oval badge. I can still see my mate draw filing the heads with a 2nd cut file, the language was bluer than the badge.

Didnt they have a big problem with the oil pump drive.?

Some did. From what I recall my father saying it was the length of the drive and old guys not driving hard enough lol.

Yes, hexagonal shaft that used to round off, was an easy replacement job as it drove the dizzy as well, so out with dizzy and pull shaft out. (o:

Yes i knew a guy with a MK4 Zodiac who always carried a spare dist drive in it,if light came on he immediatelystopped and replaced it then bought another one.

Which Mk4 motor used to have weak rocker pedestals? I seem to remember a company car that was always in the workshop with motor problems. And the spare tyre stuck in front of the radiator was weird.

You could get a modified drive that didn't stuff-out. And the fibre cam drive could be replaced with an ally Granada one.
Biggest problem wasn't the engines, it was the numb-skulls who kept driving when the problem was obvious. I even told a guy to stop driving his Zodi one day coz I could hear the cam drive starting to knock. He ignored me, and it blew within 10 minutes.
They were great Jetboat motors, so they didn't mind constant hard work.
Seen Holden cam drives stuff-up too.

I believe the original hex drive was a plastic component. The replacement metal job cured the problem, which could lead to engine destruction.

Yes, and that same 3 litre motor was used in the Ford Transit.

The beauty of that was it was easily accessible especially if the boot was always full. Dad used ours as the workshop run-about. There was always tyres, gas bottles, engine components etc. in the boot to be delivered somewhere or coming back to the work shop.

Reliant Scimitar had the same 3 liter V6.
