Currently, there are three people asking the car that I'm selling and said that they are not in Auckland at the moment or they are an oceanographer and only allowed to use email but not mobile phone. So that they have to pay through Paypal. By the way, they all said they have got a private shipping agency. Can I trust them?

no they are scammers , paypal is a legitemted service but it is used 9 out of 10 times by scammers western union is another one scammers use . So the thing to do is not trust anyone when ligic tells you its probably a scam then it more often then not is.

i would say no, because its 99.999 % likely to be a scam. they will say you need to foward or pay something to the agent for them before they pay you / if they do pay you via paypay they can reverse the payment and you will be out $$$$

I buy and sell regularly using Pay Pal and have never been ripped off and personally know nobody who has. You maybe have a lot of dumb acquaintances?
But this car thing that OP is talking about surely is a scam.

SCAM,SCAM, SCAM dont do any more dealing with them, ie sending more emails etc. They will do `Fake ` Paypal payment, but send you extra money for `shipping` and then get you to send that `shipping money` away by Western Union to a so called shipping company, then by the time your bank lets you know its a fake transaction ,you are out of pocket because you have sent money away by WU which you will never see again. My partner works in a Post Shop and reguluarly tells people not to go thru with the transaction as they are a scam, some people can take a lot to convince its a scam.

As others say it's a well known scam. But PayPal itself is fine.

I use Paypal often. The best way to get someone to pay is to send them a Paypal invoice. In this case they are unlikely to want that so they can overpay you for shipping. Likely to be a scam but you could test them if they will pay on an invoice. You are unlikely to have a favourable response.

I agree. with the potential buyer being an oceanographer and only allowed to use email but not mobile phone stands to reason. The radio wave signals from the mobile phone are harmful & will hurt the fishes ears making them deaf

What absolute rubbish; as many others above have said is true, this is a well known scam and you should report it to Trademe immediately. As for the fish being affected by the radio waves from a mobile phone; this is also rubbish since uhf (ultra high frequency) radio waves from mobile phones will not penetrate water, only low frequency radio waves will e,g. 100khz or thereabouts, as used by submarines for communication.

Treachug is pulling your leg mate:):):)
The legitimate use of PayPal is fine, but I'd caution those who use it to carefully check their invoices. They often use poor currency exchange rates AND a 4% charge on the total transaction charge = more expensive transaction than you first thought. Counter that against a business like Alixpress that use reasonable bank exchange rates, no other charges and quite often free shipping:)

treachug . don't ya hate it when flippant humour goes like a rocket into orbit above heads. I reckon we should have a whip round to the buy the little fishes ear plugs.

not a good idea bjmh. if the fish had ear plugs they wouldn't hear the submarines coming & may get run over.

The radio waves play hell with 'flying fish' when they leap out of the water.

Hell no its definatly a scam! , my partner and myself have sold cars on trade me in the last 3 weeks at different times, and both times been targeted by scammers saying they will purchase the car and send payment through paypal only. Most excuses for not viewing are they are an oceanographer or work on an oil rig and are out of town/on the sea. Bla bla bla, the person that emailed both of us goes by the name "natalie james" and its from a gmail account.
