Ok i am reluctant to post this on here because of

the swaptrons whom think they are smarter then professional technitions who write articles . anyhow this article shows what i keep telling if you understand english, yes i cant spell but this dont means i dont understand exactly what technical articles are telling in fine detail.

This article explains how and why modern cars are pumped with electronics and problems , and it shows non of the car makes is imune all use the same cost saving things that cost a fortune when they go wrong and shows you need to be a trained technition to even be able to find a problem and the need of oem capable scanners for the car make you work on.

Good article though didn't read it all!
What is a swaptron?

Either of . >
A book mechanic thats "working by the faults book" list
A "mechanic" that swaps parts around in the hope of finding the correct fault

I think it is a case of the motor engineer having to retrain to adjust to the different technology.

I am a petrol head from way back, nothing was a problem, from grinding my own cam shafts, welding up most parts of an engine etc.

I also have a strong micro-electronics background, circuit repair and microprocessor diagnostics and programming is no big deal.

I have no problem with fault finding and repair of modern systems, and it is incredibly rare for me to buy a new part. Even sensors and air flow meters can mostly be repaired, the common issues are muck and corrosion, rather than real failure.

i recommend you read it all its full of important information.

Ah! Thanks.

They lighten the parts with one hand but keep adding more unnecessary
crap with the other, each to their own but if I had to choose between less performance with a car with electric windows I'd go for better performance and wind up windows everytime.
Drove a VF dunnydore for few weeks in Auss, was brilliant on gas but
can only imagine how much better performance would be without all
the fruit. Prefer old school cars for fun factor.

Totally agree Tony9, from about the 80s when the training methods changed (some say for the better others for the worse) it became more and more acceptable to just bolt on replacement parts. It has now got to the point where brake cylinder seals are unavailable for reco work and the new cheap asian sourced replacement bolt on part has become the order of the day. My biggest hangup is the fact that most parts are serviceable but, there are ,no longer supplies available over the counter. In the end scrapping good serviceable parts is the only option. This leads to an obsolescence of some hand tools as well, can't remember the last time I used a hone or a valve spring compressor.

I was impressed thatbwhenlatsbyear I took in a rear wheel cyclones for a 1980 pug, Nelson Brake Specialist said they could still reco it! Wasn't expecting that, as you guys say usually it's a throw away.

mrfxit, Mar 7, 11:42am
When they say "reco it" they in fact simply mean over bore it to put a stainless sleeve in to it & std asian supplied seals

LOL; something to do with WORLD DOMINATION?

(Sorry Intrade, I just couldn't resist it).
