$201.20 for a used parcel tray?

tgray, Oct 29, 11:36am
I know wreckers need to make a living, but $200 for a small rear boot cover for a 10 year old Mazda Hatch is ridiculous!

martin11, Oct 29, 11:47am
What do they cost new if you can get one . Probably a rare item then they can charge what they like .

trogedon, Oct 29, 12:02pm
Parcel trays often get lost = rarity pushes up the price.

fordcrzy, Oct 29, 12:08pm
It amases me the number of "expensive" parts i see on cars at the scrap metal dealers. i think wreckets need to get realistic with pricing

3tomany, Oct 29, 12:29pm
i needed a tail light for a ef falcon once so being a bit short of coin i thought i would buy a used one. $180.00 from the wreckers so shopped around $135.00 for a brand new genuine ford one.

kazbanz, Oct 29, 12:50pm
Toby--demio DY series ? rare as rocking horse droppings so yep $200 is about right. Word of advice for ya matey. with that sorta stuff NEVER promise you can supply

intrade, Oct 29, 1:01pm
they wanted 350$ for a rear quarter window on my hilux when i got it stored it inside till i found one on trademe for 30$
then i needed a corner light wrecker had only new chinese crap copy as it turned out and his new one had a small crack they wanted 130$ for that, i said you got to be kidding with a crack its not new purchased it for 80$ and now it is gone jellow , i usually ask people what side was new and what old they all say the new light is old , but i know its not cause i recall the tini hairline crack and that is the faded junk.
and then they wonder when we order stuff from china our selfs that item was probably 3$ us for them to buy friggen gungsters.

intrade, Oct 29, 1:08pm
first place i would try is horopito motors they got a whole paddok of 90s wracks also seen 4 hilux in there plenty mazdas also

2005 Tiida.
Yes, good advice!
I promised a customer a left rear monsoon for their 1996 Prado and I am still trying to find one weeks later.

kazbanz, Oct 29, 3:58pm
WOW if you are calling mazda wreckers for Tiida parts I think I see your problem.

I priced the parcel tray for the rear of my Nissan Avenir as the two little plastic fittings have broken. It still works but is a pain and comes off the rails. New from the dealer was around $195.00. Our local wrecker didn't have any. Mind you he hasn't had many and the few he has including over models of wagons don't actually have the trays in them when they come in.

Never ceases to amaze me how many hatchbacks are sold with no luggage cover/parcel shelf.
I reckon owners in a lot of cases take them out cos they don't want them and they end up at the tip-have struck this a few times.

buyit59, Oct 29, 6:54pm
What about the tail light on a Honda Insight. failed wof due LED brake lights not working. They are sealed into the tail light so you need complete new one. $500 later ! ( wanted $1,000 new apparently . What a rip off

mrfxit, Oct 29, 8:26pm
At least tail lights are fairly simple to modify the lighting systems because all they have to do is shine at the right times.
No alignment or visible distance issues like headlights.

mrfxit, Oct 29, 8:30pm
The attitude is pretty bad as well at times with "just buy new, they are cheap as chips" . when the part in question is small but retails at $160 + but would take them all of about 10 minutes there & back to get the part off the car, preferring to lounge around in the office instead of making an easy $20

tintop, Oct 29, 8:50pm
All the baaaad stories!

I got a 98 Caldina rear door shell, flagged as 'damaged' - (that I could not find except for one paint chip) , matched the satin black/silver of our car, and bolted up perfectly to the existing door hinges, $150 from Toyotaz Galore.

franc123, Oct 29, 9:07pm
Actually there are several visibility angle and distance regulations pertaining to rear lamps, ANY modifications can cause us to have to double check what is permissible or not. Luckily most aftermarket lamps intended to be bolt in replacements are OK.

kazbanz, Oct 30, 6:20am
Did you actually look into replacing the LED's ?
Nissan Sylphies have the same "sealed" LED light system in their Hi stop. It is possible to remove/replace the LED's -Its not like just changing a light bulb but it can be done.

daryl14, Oct 30, 10:26am
Yep. Try even finding one for an 06 Passat.

lookoutas, Oct 30, 3:55pm
Someone took theirs out to load something in at the next door engineering shop, about 8 years ago, and lent it against our building.
It's still there.
Don't know what its out'a either.

joanie04, Oct 30, 7:08pm
I think the reason the little plastic things broke on mine was from over use. When I got the car the tray was folded up against the rear seats. I am always using mine. Most of the time it is in use. Handy when transporting groceries and booze (I keep the bar stocked at our sports club). Have to fold it away when I pick up the bale of hay for the critters.

got2trade, Dec 9, 9:35pm
Its always one of the first question's I ask when looking at used cars on trademe. I only buy hatchbacks and could never buy one without a parcel tray, it would bug the heck out of me.
