No point in seeing it. NT roads are completely different to NZ's roads. Very wide, and very straight, and generally very sparsley populated.

Not a very clear rule though is it? Still leaves the motorist open to punishment by interpretation. http://www.transport.nt.gov.au/safety/road-safety/open-speed-trial

No point in increasing or speed limits. Some drivers can't cope with 100km.

I do recall pounding down the Newell Highway in NSW 40 years ago when it was de-restricted.

Cruising in the XB 351 Fairmont at 160KPH, quite an experience to do that legally for a young NZ lad. Also an experience to be able to see the fuel gauge slowly going down.

Road was not that great either.

As i said, generally sparsley populated. Its a quiet country road compared to SH1. Even the four lane dual carriageway highways such as the Bruce highway and other sections of the M1 are only 110kph

you cant do stupid high speeds in the outback anyway as the wild life tends to run out in front of you. 120 was about the most i used to set the cruise control to and was always scanning far into the roadsides for suicidal roos
