Wonder how much set of piston rings are for this

motorboy2011, May 3, 1:52pm
Oval pistons, each piston has 2 rods too

Is that in New Zealand? Those are bloody rare!

richynuts, May 4, 1:59pm
yes there is one that I know of in NZ. only about 300 made

muzz67, May 4, 4:58pm
Would they still be called 'rings'?or 'ovals'?

whqqsh, May 5, 7:02am
this was discussed years ago when they first came out, availability & cost of parts. Didn't realise so few were made though

craigs_workshop, May 5, 2:44pm
around $100,000 nz new IIRC

& it was all the way back in 1992 wasnt it ?

trogedon, May 5, 3:05pm
The pistons aren't oval or eliptical more like a rectangle with half circles at the ends (whatever that is called),

wellyguynz, May 5, 5:00pm
Hmm I could be wrong but im pretty sure that's an oval, Then again im no Rocket Scientist

motorboy2011, May 5, 6:13pm
Oval (well round ends with flat sides), 8 valves per cylinder. Each piston has 2 rods. It was in ashburton, evidently in 1992 it was 60k ish, a house was around 30k there at the time.

myrns, May 5, 8:50pm
$106,000 NZ, I have the actual advert for one but none were bought in new, $54,000 for a new RC45 back in 1994

First time I heard about this bike was when it was anounced as a 'V8'.
Must be a bugger to hone fresh bores!

richardmayes, May 6, 1:21pm
According to Wikipedia the race motors had pistons with half round ends and straight middles. The consumer bike motors had oval (i.e. elliptical) pistons.

tigertim20, May 6, 4:03pm
iirc, they were trying to get v8 performance / characteristics, while still having 4 pistons.

catastrophic failure of a bike - looked nice but it got nicknames as the "Never Ready" since it was so bloody unreliable

Wouldn't worry about the price as there probably won't be anything much available anyway, apparently they were a pig of a thing.
Not worth persevering with. would imagine there would be a lot of uncontrollable expansion and stress issues with that naff design.
