Hi I would appreciate some ideas please because google is only coming up with 2015 vehicles. My partner is very tall and most of his height is in his legs. His car was totalled (a truck drove into it while it was legally parked) so he has to get a new one. Ideally 4 doors, auto (so I could borrow it) and man would I love it to be ute like (yeah probably dreaming). So ideas of what type etc in the 3k price range. His last was a Honda Logo. Had good leg room for him (but it was 2 door). He can drive my Honda Civic but it is still a little cramped. You can see his shins pressed against the lower dash. Help please we have no idea what car he will fit in (many he doesn't).

"Avalon, Falcon maybe, but for the price I would think the Toyota Avalon would be unbeatable."

Ok lets start with the Ute idea--He isn't gonna get a decent ute for 3k Emphasis on the word Decent. One suggestion that from a practical POV will work would be a 1999 Toyota Funcargo.

Well in all honestly I doubted he could get a ute because I know they are expensive. More carry room than mine would be a bonus since we now live in a rural area.

Some small cars have surprising amounts of interior space. The EF Honda CRX had heaps of room up front, an old school mate had one, he was around 6'3" and I'm 6'1" and we fitted in that no problems. My RX-8 has loads of room, in fact, I have to pull the seat forward! My sw20 MR2 on the other hand was at it's limit. Seat all the way back, and tilted. With my helmet on at the track it would scuff the headlining. You literally will just have to go and have a look at a few cars in that price range, and find the least knackered one that he can fit in.

I second that with the Toyota Avalon. I'm a solid (not fat) build 6'2"+ and I find my one to be unbeatable in that respect as well as lots of others. The ample room t'was the main reason I bought my one as well as the bullet proof reputation which I have proof positive for nearly 5 years now. I'd have another in a heartbeat, even an Aurion would be in my sights in future.

Aurions are not on par with the Avalon in terms of room or reliability. I sadly sold mine, but I think I may buy another one and use it as my work car.

Another option would be a Diamante, they have a lot of room, in the front, and are nowhere as bad as people make them out to be.

Could always change the seat rails in whatever you get to put the seat further back. My friend is 7ft 3inches and drives a car with the seat rails changed and a spacer to move the steering wheel out further too.

Nissan Maxima. Larger car, plenty of interior space, very comfy and powerful. Should be able to find a nice post 2000 A33 model for your 3k budget, which has the added benefit of yearly wofs. You could certainly get the earlier A32 for 3k or under.
Make sure to have a thourough, professional pre purchase inspection carried out by a trusted mechanic on anything you look at in this price range, as they will be older cars, quite possibly with age or mileage related issues. The Maximas for example need to be thouroughly checked for rust in the front crossmember/ radiator support area which is a common area of weakness. but not enough to discount them in my view. Find a good one and they're brilliant cars, with a superbly smooth and reliable V6 engine.

I've found variance in how far back that seat will go within same car, year. Differing models and markets seem to require different set up. I've always found euro cars have enough plus, so older BMW 318 good idea, or golf. Jap cars seem to be hit and miss, maybe it depends on whether it's designed for export or not. So, it might be you have to try a few. Best seating I've ever found in an older car is the 2002 Volvo v70 wagon I'm using now. massive seats, heaps of leg room. But it sounds like you're after a smaller car.

Porsche 968, I am 190cm tall and this is the only car I have owned where the seat goes back to far for me. Not a lot of use to the O.P but just saying.

Don't bother looking at Nissan Primera's 1996 - 2001. They have terrible driver leg room. Probably the worst of any mid size sedan I can think of.

I'm 6'3", long legs I find to drive my old Mitsi exceed Dion comfortably I have to move the seat forward from the most rearward position, 7 seater, won't beat the land speed records but does okay even with a full load and often with the trailer, light on petrol too

anything you get for 3K is going to be an older vehicle, check cam belts were done and when they are next due, check cooling system and exhaust system 3k would get you a 6 cyl ssangyong 98-2000 model, with the 3200cc engine they go like a cut cat, tow 3.5 tonne rated, bit harder on gas ( allow about 11 lt per 100km ), no cam belt, hard to kill were sold in the UK rebadged as a Mercedes suv, a big hulk of a wagon but very solid

DP is 6'2 and he finds my colt fine. Difference is I have the seat raised and he doesn't. An amputee I know recently drove it and said it was roomy around his knees with seat down which is sometimes a challenge for him with prosthetic getting in and out.
DP drove my old mini fine and his 6'3 father raced them back in the day. They just sat with their knees found their ears lol.
