Came home this afternoon to find my outboard on the (new secondhand) boat gone. Way round the back, not visible from the road, only the motor, not the new anchor, oars, or jackets.
15hp Evinrude with Permatrim. E15RCRM. Anyone around Whangarei hearing anything please ring the Police. I'm paying them a visit tomorrow as they must have been busy today.
Only bought the boat three weeks ago, haven't had a chance to take it out.

You should change your heading to "Useless Cops"

dave653, May 1, 4:39pm
Now now, be nice! They only have so many officers. and way too many shitheads to deal with! In a bind, 'who ya gonna call?'

tintop, May 1, 4:43pm
Yes - a great idea, just what the Op needs to do when he hopes to get some help from them.

dave653, May 1, 4:46pm
I've asked the immediate nieghbours. all were out. Visiting the bloke out the back tomorrow, and the new fullas across the road. They will all know how pissed off I am.

lookoutas, May 1, 4:57pm
If they got their arses into gear, they could find some prints. That's what I'm getting at.

Almost a year since I got broken into. 12 hundy worth of damage, and no results.

Girl that grew up behind us, has some stock across the way. She found a calf head and guts on Tue. She rang this morning to see if the cops had checked if we'd seen anything. But no!

She told them they'd better find out who did it before she does, and they laughed. Funny thing - So did I. But I know her better than they do, so I was laughing from a different angle.

prime suspects.
not uncommon for the theives to be your neighbors.

dave653, May 1, 5:16pm
My thoughts too. Not sure if they were home when I bought the boat home. we'll see.

chooken1, May 1, 5:28pm
Bloody pricks, ya can't have anything these days.

skin1235, May 1, 5:36pm

my daughters husband died ,that's been very tough for her. now 16yr old neighbour has burgled her house . stole I pad, computer, grand daughters babysitting money . the thief has been openly trying to sell I pad etc around town.Cops couldn't get fingerprints, they searched his house and found nothing, now he is bragging to his mates about burglary. cops can't do anymore. trouble is for every crim that gets caught ,there are 10 more who want to take their place. My mum used to say "if there are no buyers for stolen goods, there would be no criminals ".

elect70, May 2, 1:25pm
local natives tried to steal 200 johnson off mates boat , parked outside his bedroom . woke up to sound of them hacksawing the remotes off . they took off but he recognised 1 of them , plod says nothing they could do , file a complaint& contact insurance company .

skin1235, May 2, 2:21pm
yeah, pita, but, if you had the new boat and therefore motor added to the household insurance policies when you bought it, you'd now be looking at a new - not second hand- engine
try your insurance co - they may allow a claim on it as you'd only just bought it and most have a grace period of a couple of months for additions to be registered on policies - I know mine does, any new gear in the sheds etc are automatically covered with a grace period of 3 mnths to list details etc

never had to claim any yet but when you buy say a new saw at $1600 you don't always rush down to update the insurance

ppgirl1, May 2, 5:00pm
Yeah the police are to busy catching people doing couple k over speed limit

tiny15, May 2, 8:14pm
probably was one of your neighbors or one of their mates. lets face it how would a random thief know that you weren't home & the fact the outboard was there to begin with

kazbanz, May 3, 6:55am
dave--If it was me I'd be using as much social media as I can. get the word out as widely as possible.
Id also be visiting the local cash converters and their likes to ask if one has been sold to them

nukhelenc, May 4, 2:51pm
I seen a unmarked cop car today driving around with i suppose his wife looking at cars for sale on the side of the road, Now thats a good use of money i suppose. No he was out of uniform

hotrodtodd1, May 6, 8:45am
Had a race car trailer pinched a few days before the February Quakes, and the police found it about 6 months later, so I bought it back off NZI and had it repaired. New locks for the trailer and about six months later the bugger got stolen again.

Before NZI had a chance to pay for it again, the Police found it for me again, and now its securely locked away.

My experience is that the Police are not "useless cops"

well you dont live in whangarei do you
they are busy stopping you 200 meter from the wof to write you a infringment compliance notice to fill ther quatoa of given out infringments when you go for a wof, instead of doing actuarl police work up here.
lucky i got stoped in taumarunui for not display road user charges the friendly cop told me on xmas that i probably just put the new lable behind the other lables and that even if it was not the case i was just over and i should check things.
just imagin what hoops i would have to jump thur with the cockroaches up here if they would have stoped me.

Take a deep breath and calm down. What you see and hear on the roadside is not what the majority of the force are doing everyday, open your eyes and you might find that cops are locking up plenty of burglars, peodophiles, thieves and others.

So that really blows that posters theory out doesnt it ?

intrade, May 6, 9:50am
re 26 for the amount of police in whangarei there should not even be any criminal activity possible what so ever here.

cmscott111, May 6, 9:54am
But considering your whinging and moaning about your cops there they are not doing too badly are they ?
