Just wondering what the pros and cons are of EROAD

Some of our fleet utes and vans have started to get hooked up.

Depends on whether you are the driver or fleet owner

Mate has it in his truck.
Since all data can be inspected when stopped, he now has his truck speed limited to 94kph, he stops for his breaks at the scheduled time, doesn't matter where he is and although he does the same amount of work - he takes longer to get it done.
He is not keen on it.

Pro - you can record all off road travel and be refunded RUCs. Probably not that big a deal for utes and vans though. Also, no longer do you need to worry about having a current ruc sticker!

Oh yea man that would be shit for a truck driver.but yup with 80 or 90 utes and vans in our fleet all doing around 1000ks a week and 30% of it of road then I could see the savings

Find out what the rental of them is and work out if what you're going to be saving is worth it (I've heard they're fairly expensive) but must also save a lot of admin time on 90 vehicles I'm guessing

Lots of trucking companies and agricultural contracting companies are sold on it, particularly for tractors that spend most of the time off road.

The other big benefit is it works as live tracking for the whole fleet, now when I am waiting on a truck to turn up their office can always tell me where it is even if the driver is not answering the radio or mobile.
The agricultural contractors like it because it helps them give better directions to the foreign guys when they get lost, its simple if you can see exactly where they are on the map and tell them where they need to go, rather than have them tell you where they think they are.

You don't pay RUC on tractors.

EROAD watch out for Geofencing
which means you must stay at the speed limit till you pass the signs
eg 50 to a 100 you must stay under 55 till you get to the 100 sign
i got a warning for 72km/50 when i was just 20m from the 100sign
so its PC overkill

kingfisher21, Jul 22, 2:51pm
Isn't the company that does them in the crap financally?

philltauranga, Jan 11, 11:03am
Haha +1 to the geo fence its a pain in the butt alright, doing speed limit to the sign, pc gone mad. Alot of the big company's get into you about over speeds.

Another con. to them is the CVIU can obtain access to the information under certain circumstances. ie accident.
This could help you or. FKN NAIL you in an investigation, depending on how squeaky clean you are and weather all legal paperwork ie log book matches the GPS information. Here's a hint, you can only cheat 1 of them
