No health and safety people there to take the fun out of watching motor racing - almost as good as reply No.3 in the "Driving along minding my own business" entry!
That was great, not long before Pukekohe took over from Ardmore. Quite a few GP drivers came out here and raced in the European 'off season'. I remember Jim Clark, Graham Hill, Stirling Moss, and of course the Antipodeans, Bruce Mclaren, Denny Hulme, Chris Amon, Jack Brabham amongst others.

I recall,as a young teen, trying to hitch hike from Glen Innes to Pukekohe for the first one there, we walked most of the way.

I remember my brother and I taking the train which stopped at the beginning of the back straight, and everybody clambering out and entering through a gap in the fence which had a temporary ticket booth. We gathered up soft drink bottles and got the refund for our spending money for the day. Good memories!
