I see heaps of cheap ones going from $1 reserve what gives? And has anyone actually owned one of these before, like how does it compete against brands like Cobra, Valentine, Whistle, Bel etc

Yes I bought a cheap one TM couple of years back. Can't recall name. Useless. Beeped a lot but not often when I wanted it to. Sold it on cheaper still and bought good one and it is worth the money.

Most of the new Hand Held Lazers the police are using , once you here the warning on your detector it is too late they already have your speed .

ESCORT, VALENTINE, BELTRONICS are the only ones worth their weight, bought a cheap Whistler a few years ago which was pretty inconsistent. Just bought a used Bel RX65 for $250 which is far better value than a cheap one.

what about the drivers that don't throw money at radar detectors and some how don't get speeding tickets.
Wonder what their secret is.
maybe they are just a lot smarter than some others.
Oh. and they drive safer too.

or maybe they just pretend they never had a ticket to show off how much better they are then everybody else? i had 2 tickets one in europe for wrong parking in the gungster country i have left 25 years ago because my mate said i can park there and the ticket was 3 am or so in the morning also and another for alegadly speeding on the motorway in this country 116kph wich i somhow doubt i was doing about 15 years ago. thats the only ever tickets i got in my live

Lol, it's not about the speeding going over 110 but for times when your following others u mind sort of drifts off watching for hazards, pedestrians, cars around you and your slightly over 100-104 or 53 for example.

To put it one way, they're about as much use as an ashtray on a motorbike. Merely a dash ornament. You get what you pay for with these.

I've got a Uniden with a GPS speed readout. The GPS is far more useful than the radar feature, which is probably out dated by now. It still picks up the cops - when they have theirs on. But it might not be getting some of the new equipment. Knowing my true speed is a plus, and it's good in the Yank MPH cars.

I bought a valentine a while ago so that I don't have to spend all my time watching my speedo. I cant watch out for all the other dumb arse drivers.

spend good money get a good one if you do a lot of travelling mine cost about $900.00 but has paid for itself well and truly but I do a few ks and like tonight very handy when the limits so low
Had a cheap on ex TM. Worked fine especially during the silly 4kph tolerance times. Have car with cruise control now so the radar detector has gone in the bin. Much happier being able to control speed electronically than having to constantly watch speedo.

i bought a escort redline and it picks up the new mobile cameras and new cameras in auckland and wellington. get it from ebay not nz as local dealers are a rip. i was doing 115 dn-chch-dn on sat and got a cop on side of road at 6am from over 1km away. yes i was on cruise but just cancelled it and slowed to 100 and then hit resume once past. he was only cop in 850km driving
