I don't own one, BUT have looked in to them and decided I'd take a look at Navman, a kiwi company (at least it was) and looks well conceived for not much more money. Before someone tells me off for commenting when I dont own one, you may or may not take note of my comment to check out a Navman.

Yep, run one through my smart phone, great resolution, has speed and gps display and easy to read number plates etc. Good thing is that because it is a phone it always comes out with me instead of sitting there tempting would be thieves.

Yup. I do this too, works great. From memory it cost about $2. (iOS)

Yep, loads of apps, just check the reviews for the best one for your model phone. Mine uses a set amount of memory and then records over the oldest footage when full, can also permanently save sections of footage if wanted.
Dont get a gps camera. if someone causes an accident but you are speeding or considered to be too fast for conditions your skewed. get a mobius dash cam. google it

Absolutely nothing so far, and I hope I never need it, but in the event of a crash it will be used to show what happened to police and insurance company.

Nice tip.
I love gadgets but I've been avoiding getting a dash camera - I'm sure I'd do something stupid and just incriminate myself.

Can you tell me your app name please sounds good. Thanks
was keen on DOD LS460 or 430 but preferred something smaller, more discrete also keen on mini 0806 but quality control not great so far on this new model & didn`t want hassle of returning if citrus ended up buying BlackVue DR600

the difference between using a dash cam and your cell phone is that a dash cam can record at 60 fps instead of most phones are only 30 fps.

really handy for bad drivers. people that run you off the road, tailgate, harasse you, driving on the wrong side of the road etc. i've had hit and runs. people claimed that i've hit them, which wasn't true. insurance fraud is a big one. then there is the big nasty accidents.
just remember that they have absolutely no problem in killing you and your family and then lie about it and blame you for it.
start at 0:36 "A prius driver pulls out onto the highway in front of a loaded truck leaving them nowhere to go. Driver was also fined for providing a false statement to police after they saw the vision."
in the comments it says something along the lines of prius driver claimed that the she was being tailgated by the truck and he hit her when she slowed down to turn off at the intersection.
