Ce Firo Flooding?

wildwest3, Jan 26, 2:01pm
I know this sounds odd but my Ce Firo shows classic symptoms of flooding, Hard to start, crank it with full throttle it will go eventually, and there is a strong smell of petrol. Any Ideas? Cheers all

How old are the spark plugs?

wildwest3, Jan 26, 4:48pm
Where are the spark plugs LOL, This is an intermittent fault, appears to happen when hot?

jmma, Jan 26, 4:51pm
Spark plugs are at Repco :oP
What year and what engine?

i am guessing its fuel injected , you never ever start a fuel injected car with fully open throttle they are designed to start on close throttle. holding the throttle fully open disables on a lot of newer cars the starting of the engine its so the diagnostition can do a fast relative compression test without having to disable the fuel with a scanner.
if you must open throttle then open it 1/4 and if it starts and wont start with closed throttle then come back and and say so

I give it open throttle, once I know it won't do a normal start, with closed throttle. It is yes injected E32 2000l V6. Sometimes it idles fast 1100RPM when hot. As a friend said "I wanted a car I didn't have to work on, I got one I can't work on"

intrade, Jan 26, 5:37pm
why in the hell you buy a v6 if you dont want work?
i dont exactly know where to start being a v6 makes it even worse you got 2 banks of cilinders to diagnose and mislead you not just one .

When did you buy this car ond from who dealer private?

The crank sensor on this engine gives a lot of trouble with interference on the signal various causes. Carp on end of sensor, trans bolts not torqued correctly, high carbon build up in starter. If it's been flooding lots you may want to check your oil as it will be full of gas

intrade, Jan 26, 5:52pm
yes i was going to mention that crank sensor but it could also be faulty injectors , what he discribes of doing would fit however.
Like the crank sensor wont let it spark because there is a fault so you floor the pedal this enables clear flood protection meaning its not injecting fuel and then when you cranked it enough it starts up .

I've had the car 6 years, it's always behaved well. This is a recent development
This is a once or twice a week thing, when it's hot.

intrade, Jan 26, 6:03pm
when its hot would put it towards a failing electronic component like the crank ,cam sensor are. but these are only guesses from what might be.

i have a genuine nissan workshop manual for 200 bucks if you want it,

jmma, Jan 26, 7:03pm
6 Years, guess you have replaced the spark plugs at some stage?

franc123, Jan 26, 7:50pm
You will probably find its a dodgy coolant temp sensor.

wildwest3, Jan 27, 3:46pm
Thanks All that gives me a few things to look at!

melonhead1, Jul 20, 10:02pm
Definitely check that coolant temp sensor, just replace it. If you do change the plugs, don't cheap out, put the proper ngk ones in.
