Which folding bike do you recommend?

venna2, Nov 26, 5:37pm
Not exactly motoring - it's pedal power. But there's no other suitable message forum for bicycles.

I'm thinking of buying a folding bicycle - preferably well under $1000. There seem to be quite a few different brands and I don't know which one would be best for me. I'd be cycling mostly on paved roads and cycle lanes but would want it to be okay on gravel and dirt tracks too. And on the lighter side, as I'm far from young.

Any recommendations? Thanks!

These are pretty good at folding but I've heard that they are a bugger to unfold.

Asking about folding bikes in a motoring message board.
Great atemt at a windup.

most of the cyclists around here prefer the one that folds neatly under your car.

Great "atemt" at spelling.

they had some on the news the other day that fold up and fit in the boot, best bit is you dont have to pedal either. More like 3k though

Most fold up bikes are crap. avoid like the plague if possible. why do you need a fold Up?.

I was laughing so hard it was hard to type.

Well, they'd be handy to take in the boot of a car or on a bus or train, and I have friends with folding bikes who go riding with the Folding Goldies. I've only had a 'regular' bike before, and cycling has mainly been for boring commuting, getting from A to B at the times I didn't have a car. But it can also be fun, even at my advanced age.

Anyway, I guess I'll try in the 'sports' message thread, though I don't really feel that cycling is a 'sport', not for me anyway, though I know it is for many.

And thanks to the folk who've provided links.

Too much choice!

Venna-I'd suggest going into your local Avanti bikes shop.
They tend to give honest advice.

I have had a Di Blasi folding bike for many years. Used to keep it on yacht and take ashore in dinghy to get around faster than walking. Well made but due to small wheels not great on gravel.

Most Mtbs will fit in the boot or back seat of any car if you take the wheels off. There wouldn't be many places you couldn't take a full size bike.

I had a '60s English Moulton (aircraft engineer design folding bike with suspension) that was my father n law's first wife's - she used it community nursing in London. I sold it as it was rusty and would've cost heaps to restore properly.

Anyway, you 'motoring' people have been more helpful than those in 'sports' - I've had no replies at all there!

We're into anything with tits or wheels. against our better judgement.
