If you are after an old British car that is rust free then NZ is considered a good a place too look. Also when the exchange rate is low these cars become a steal really. I have seen several cars before on US forums that were originally exported to NZ.

Can you imagine the public out cry if overseas Chinese investors started buying up our classic automobiles [and the media did a beat up on it], LOL? Not that they would really, as Chinese typically like new stuff.

I thought the Clubman came out with 12" wheels, ours certainly did, maybe the GT version was different, or they are aftermarket wheels.
The horsepower figures are laughable by today's standards, but they certainly drove well.

NZ is a good place to find really rare later model (90s) Coopers as well, lots of very nice ones were imported used from Japan.

spent a month in china last year the most popular car there was a new audi in black, followed by all the major brands, very few chinese cars as they dont like them

Black Audi A6s are driven by big shots. Chinese Communist Party officials, company bosses and such. You move out of the way if one of those comes up behind you.

I've never seen a BMC engine number like that before. Also the dash liner looks really homemade.

Doesn't look like a cooper s cylinder head to me I can't see the 11th head stud by the thermostat maybe it's me

There were also 25 relaunched Mini Cooper and Cooper S imported new from the UK in 1991, to mark the 30 year anniversary of the original racing model. Pricing for Cooper was $23,990 and Cooper S was $32,990.

Many went to Japan from here, recall there was a decent export market for good ones. Late 90's maybe.
These 1275's were damn good cars.

OK for the poms to buy up our classics , they have wharehouses full of new or remanufactured parts , whereas in Nz dealers dumped it under supervision . I remember GM Trentham crushing ( under the bulldozer ) brand new Holden body panels & crates of parts at the tip when they closed down . Ford used to dump their obsolete parts too .
