Pretty bad and sad but you would probably be right there. They would see all sorts of questionably roadworthy old crap show up for the tests, I reckon if a novice driver cant even identify basic WOF faults (without getting TOO far into the intricacies of the VIRM) then its clear they need further information and instruction in these matters, it is something that has been sadly lacking for decades in our driver training system. As has the need to incorporate these checks into a regular maintenance programme. Most young adults in this country end up being vehicle owners, it should be a compulsory module in schools IMO.

Ah yes - - it applies to the number of individual light sources within a cluster making up an individual lamp, as in a led unit.

t does not mean that of (say) a pair of tail lights on each side of a vehicle being 4 lamps in total, that it is permissible for one of those to not be working. However if those lamps are lit by led bulbs, it is permissible to have up to 25% of the leds to not be working.

That rule came about because of the amount of 90s cars coming in with dying boot spoiler mounted Led HMSL's, there had to be a line drawn somewhere.

Its not okay if the high level brake light is not working at all if its in the vehicle ,do not know where you get your ideas from they are wrong . The 75% could apply the a group of LEDs but is for one cluster of lights not 3 individual lights ,i.e . rh and lh brake lights and hl brake light are 3 separate lights and the 75% rule applies to only one . From what is on here the HL brake light did not go at all .

This is the post that brought an array into the conversation.

Seems to be a practical solution.

It is not a cash cow its creating a delay for other people to do the test by taking up a booking because they failed to check their car was legal for the test
lesson of the day check you car out before the test a quick clean inside and out no problems
