is this got aircon or not? also the mk3 still or mk4 platform? should be a mk3
turn on aircons fans must come on with aircon check aircon compressor works or it could be the aircon system who shut the fans down. Could needs investigating . my vw turns fans on but aircon is not working when i use aircon have compressor unpluged till i can get somone who sleeps with his aircon manifold gagues to have a look at it. my one is mk4 sedan golf=bora or jetta.

Is that because you need to repair VW's more than Mazda's :oP

looks like the mk2 thermal switch in radiator jumped. the mk1 only has 2 pins i used to have a jumper in the glove box to jump the fan if it was not going to come on on hot days in traffic

IF THE COOLING FANS DO NOT WORK:
Well, here's a fast test. The Fan should Should have these colored wires:
Brown (ground) Red/White (low) Red/Gray (high)
Locate the fan sensor (drivers side, near headlight, in rad. ) its a 3 wire sensor. It should have these wires:
Red +12V from fuse 19, 30A under dash Red/White (low speed trigger) Red/Yellow (high speed trigger)
Check All fuses under dash. 19, 6 and 4 are key as well as a brass colored bar on the coolant module. Anyhow. On the fan sensor, unplug it, and jump with a paper clip:
RED to Red/White (fan should come on low speed)
Unplug it. and then;
RED to Red/Yellow. (fan should work on high speed)
IF THE FAN RUNS REPLACE THE SENSOR IN THE RADIATOR.
---
IF the fan DOES NOT come on jump power TO THE FAN.
IF THE FAN RUNS when jumped directly to power:
Replace FCM.
If fan does not work replace fan motor.--

so jump Brown (ground) To Red/White Slow speed fan or jumper wire Brown to the Red/Gray wire for fast fan speed. its ground side switched the switch is inside the radiator when the cooling water gets hot enough so if the radiator dont gets hot enough the fan switch also wont trigger bend the bimetal inside the switch to jump to one of the 2 wires. jumping the wire is called a bypass test use what ever but dont damage the pins . paperclip short wire what ever suits i had a short wire with 2 spade consctors in glove box on mk1 golf
to all those that helpd /thanks . it was the radiator sender unit . but bleeding the cooling system was a b@sted of a job but got it done ! the temp readings are now good / around town temp is half way / 100 d and motorway is 70 d . am now one happy driver .
