96 VR4 Legnum Issues

shads_01, Feb 13, 8:14pm
Hey there team,
Went to drive to work this morning in my legnum
Backed outta the drive and went up the road less than a km and the car started shuttering and making a bad grinding sound
I drove it home yesterday night and everything was fine and this has only started this morning
Drove it home and left it till I got home from work
Hadda look under the car and theres nothing touching the ground at all
The car goes into gear fine but when you goto drive it is making the shuddering grinding sound
Any ideas on what this could be?
Car recently just hadda wof and passed this fine
A friend suggested it mite be the diff or transfer case. Its a triptronic auto

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what it could be? :(

Having a new WOF has got zero to do with the fact that you've got a trans problem. My pick is that the torque converter turbine splines are starting to strip, it is one of the V6 Galant and Legnums signature problems of that era. If it is that its not far away from completely losing drive.

Wat sorta price are you looking at if it is this to replace the parts for it?

You need to go to a trans or older mitsi specialist. These ain't simple cars and weren't sold here new so parts are import only. No one quote on a forum, it needs seeing too by specialist who knows them.

In my ST-R that I just sold, I got the torgue converter rebuild, Cost was $320 plus freight but with doing the work by myself and a my mate, Cut the bill right in half, Have to pull the whole gearbox out, And I also replace both filters, gaskets, new oil in both gearbox and transfer case, Think total was like $600ish, For a mechanic shop to di it, Looking at $1000 plus.

Other option is just to sell it how it is now

Wrong, Mitsubishi stock all sorts of parts for jap imports including VR4 legnums
