Rosies

It is very easy to get mad when something bad happens, and have a big online rant about it. Whereas most days are good days, but it is so easy to just completely take for granted all of the little good things in the world, and they pass without getting a mention.

I took a trip over the Rimutaka hill this morning in the rain & mist, and it was the usual mix of people in company cars going like hell, and a few bewildered people in their own cars tootling along at about 65% of a realistic maximum speed and never, ever, EVER letting anyone pass.

At the top of the hill, I caught up with a furniture moving van branded "Rosies of Masterton". Rosie was taking it nice & slowly down the sth side of the hill but she pulled over at the first opportunity to let me through.

Around the next corner, I caught up with a second Rosies of Masterton truck, and Rosie the Second immediately pulled over to let me through too.

Around the next corner, I caught up to a 3rd Rosies of Masterton truck, and the driver of that truck pulled over to let me through as soon as he could also.

In a world where people increasingly don't care a toss about the convenience of anybody else around them, it was astonishing to come across 3 absolute cracker truckies in a row like that.

Well done Rosie's of Masterton, may everyone seek and use your services, and may a thousand blessings shine down upon your business!

Nice one, I came back from Blenheim to Nelson while ago in old 95 Fairmont t and was delighted that three trucks pulled over to let me pass in middle of windy road, I wasn't close or showing impatience, I was relaxed and ok, but big thumbs up to considerate truckies, by far best drivers out as a group.

Good on ya Rosies!
I did 600km towing a trailer on Friday, and 600km towing trailer back home again on Sunday. In my 1200km of trailer towing motoring, I had no problems interacting with fellow motorists, no rage or hissy fits required. I did find myself pulling to the left more often than usual, since I had a lower speed limit, and found I received a happy toot or a wave from most of the overtakers. No one tried to ram me or drive over the centre line to scare me. I did overtake a few cyclists here and there, but only one that I had to follow for 2-3 minutes until I could see enough to cross the centre line and pass safely (cyclist was as far left as they could be without crampons and a rope). All in all it was an uneventful experience with none of the suicidal tourists, irresponsible racers or hogging cyclists that we have been hearing so much about lately. If you ask me, things aren't as bad out there on the roads as some media agencies would have us believe.

Plenty of suicidal bikies heading north from Paeroa late Sunday morning after the Battle of the Streets was cancelled.

Recently had 2 weeks holiday around Nelson/Golden Bay and very few negative issues . Lots of driving and as per normal the truckies were great , so were most of motorhomes and trailer towing cars . If I passed someone who had pulled over I gave them a toot and wave. Likewise if someone came up behind me and was going faster I tried to let them pass as soon as I could .The group of road users that caused any issues were the single cars that either refused to pass something but not fall back and let anyone else try. ! But overall it was a pleasurable trip. Great country and great people !

I only saw a few heading south and riding safely, but I came through Paeroa about 3.30pm, sounds like I missed most of them. The narrow bridge coming into town from the south was a bit of fun but I had 150mm to spare for the oncoming caravan and 50mm for the side of the bridge.

I was Paeroa to Ngatea about 10:30 am. I think that there was a fair amount of frustration in the air at the time.

All round by the sounds of it, it is a pretty big event to go tits up, do you know why?
Are you out and about in the maggot, or was it a Sunday cruise?

We tootled down on Sat afternoon, parked overnight next to a sign that said 'Campers Welcome' opposite the Waihi railway station ( Obviously not in TCDC territory! lol ). Ms Tin set off on her bike in the morning to ride the trail to Paeroa, I drove down in the maggot ( with perfect brakes! ) , got caught in the melee at Paeroa and ended up going to Ngatea to fill with water. We spent the late afternoon exploring the mining caves at Mt Karangahake. Came back to home during the day today.

Paeroa 'Battle of the Streets' is good, and being close to Auck is pretty well attended. Was rain on Sunday morning, and the forecast was for the odd shower during the day, so the racing was cancelled. Sod's law being wjat it is - the rest of the day was fine and sunny.

If you were north bound on SH26 at 3:30, was parked by the L&P bottle :)

Sounds like a good trip, especially with those maintenance things out of the way, I did look east towards the bottle as I dog legged off the bridge, across 2 and up towards Kopu, but I don't recall seeing a camper.
If you gave me a heads up I would have kept a better look out.

There is an off street park - same side and just to the east of the bottle :) A good place for a snooze while Ms Tin was peddling along on her trip unaware that the racing was cancelled. . She is not really into the sound of a Manx Norton with a megaphone exhaust.

It sounds like a good marital compromise, one on the pedals and one with the hp, at least you had a comfy place to rest once the rain set in. How did the solar stand up to 48 hours off the grid? Not a long test I know, but if I recall correctly you were wiring in a new setup?

Yep - all done and dusted. Ms Tin, her daughter and 4 grandies went to Matai Bay for 10 days - Fridge, internal lights, and an extension 12 V fluro on a lead in the tent. All running off the solar panel and combined 100Ah house battery and 50Ah starter battery. Never had to run the engine at all. Being very very careful of low tree branches now though. :)
