WOF test assumptions.lol

Took the commie in a few weeks back for its 6 monthly . now I have remarks in the system im guessing. it passed but I was given a few issues to rectify before next wof. brakes worn. lol. I took the wheels off before I ran it in the disks had been changed and the pads were 3/4 . it could have done with a bleed i suppose to bring it to like new pedal but worn. not really and reality is it will self adjust. Powersteering fluid low. lol. its never used any and right on the button as for fluid level (did they even bother to pull and check the level) or is it as I first thought just looks low due to the clear plastic bottle. Last issue was powersteering pump. damp. lol. im thinking this is either it feels damp to touch or the actual steering itself feels damp in which case it would surely be at the steering box end as opposed to the pump. all in all ive decided to do nothing its an old car. not brand new. but it is safe and nothings leaking or shuddering everythings working properly. Some folk just get to carried away I think. and create possibles rather than just sticking to what is

hmm maybe its so it appears they are doing a good check when inspectors who inspect the wof practice look up what wofs they do, making up stuff as the wof inspector the inspectors wont know if these where factual correct.

How did you know see these entry? written on your wof sheet?
if so probably thats what the receptionist types in there system.

Comments attached to the wof card. I really wonder about the competency of some inspectors when it comes to the mundane or being overly officious. I got knocked back some years ago on both front seats (should have known what the seat dumped out the front meant before I took the car in to the place. lol). I tried to explain that all the seats in these types of cars operate in the same manner. the guy had flagged the seats . 3 tyres and a leaking front strut. I took the car immediately to a council testing station and it flew tru. the strut was actually not leaking it was spray from a loose oil pressure gauge. the seats were fine ,when i went back and got a refund and pointed out the tyres were well within legal. he retracted on the 3 tyres and strut but still wouldnt have passed the seats. saying I was lucky. well it must have been luck because the seats have passed every time since. lol. flip side is ive had friends buy cars from dealers that clearly should not have passed wofs but have stickers less than a week old with say missing front suspension tension adjust nuts or cracked steering boots. heck one even had no powersteering as the box was clearly stuffed. its all who you know pat on the back stuff for some folk

Power steering pump damp could mean it is covered in oil which means there is a leak. Which may also be why they told you the level is low. Maybe you should have asked them to explain their comments instead of coming up with your own biased opinion of the state of your car?

Biased opinion? Easy tiger. Sounds like he has a fairly good grasp on his vehicle, and it wouldn't be the first WoF man to be talking utter crap.

I'd recommend taking somewhere else next time, if the issues are again raised at that time, then probably valid. Otherwise, keep an eye on things to keep safe.

If you show up with an old car with a filthy engine bay with fluid residue everywhere why do YOU think you might have been subject to nitpicking scrutiny? Cars that are obviously neglected in the areas you can see indicate to anybody looking at it that the owner certainly couldn't give a rats posterior about what's going on with the bits that you can't. Good luck with future passes.
