Alfa 156 electronic display.

Bought a 03 clover leaf for $3100(red with leather) on here a couple of weeks back, (not auction), it is a very sweet and mint car, but it has one very minor electronic issue.
So now if you have stopped laughing,
the display up by the windscreen sometimes works perfectly(mainly at night - maybe, ie lights on), but at other times only parts of it come on, some very faint, others not at all. Pressing on display screen sometimes makes it brighten up in that area, other times not.
So while it is irrelevant to the running of the car, i would love to have it working correctly, to see see fuel use etc.
Has anyone had any experiance with these items? sure i will pull it apart and check/clean connections, but do wonder if i would be wasting my time if it is usually a dead/dying unit.
Thanks for any imput.

Excellant, thanks for that.
i think perhaps mine works best when air con is on or unit is cold so heat probally is the problem.

Got to love it, display goes west when heater is on 'they were like this when new'!
Gotta be Italian. But that engine is brilliant, had a 156 and loved that engine, but it really was terribly made!

I am still in the love phase, as no other issues yet, and those engine are so sweet, after cruising steady on city mode at 80ks, i pulled down paddle and nailed the gas, for the first time recently, expecting her to drop from 5th to 4th. Absolutley loved the suprise and sound when instead she went straight to 2nd and launched rev counter on a mission.

OP, owned an Alfetta 159i many years ago- one of the first with electronic displays and fuel injection, much to the horror of Alfisti around the world. The display did similar tricks to what you describe, but I had to replace a fuse one day for something I thought was totally unrelated, and to my surprise the display lit up perfectly after that. So try the obvious- clean or replace the fuses, connections etc. Might just work.
