1990 Mitzi rvr with blown head gasket. Cheaper to

dunedinite68, Mar 26, 3:53pm
replace the engine or get head gasket fixed? What sort of price would I be looking at? It's 1800cc

petermcg, Mar 26, 3:55pm
If it is the head gasket its cheaper to just get a new one and install it

Plus find what caused the overheat !

More than its worth, after you've fixed all that (it won't be just a HG, the head could be cracked and it will probably need timing belt, water pump and possibly a new radiator too before anyone will guarantee it) the trans will be next. Put the money into something decent instead.

True, but it is most unlikely that the head gasket just went poof. More likely a bent or cracked head made it go poof, or after it went poof it overheated and distorted the head or block. Either way a replacement good engine would likely be cheaper.

It a Mitsi and wont be a blown head gasket, it will be a cracked head, good luck finding a good replacement head.

no no. :)). there will be heaps of back yard people selling one. " ran great".

Exactly, it should go to the crusher.

dunedinite68, Mar 26, 6:01pm
Oh dear, thanks for all the advice, it was what I had expected bu was hoping otherwise. Anyone want to buy a 'really good' mitzi that is a close cousin to the exxon valdez? You will get a free can of coke to go with it for only $2k ;)

franc123, Mar 26, 6:08pm
LMAO, someone might want to buy a 'really good' Mitsi, but the coke will have to be free and you might get $500 if you could find someone motivated enough to DIY repair, its worth scrap otherwise. Practically nobody wants them, especially with highish kms on them.

Buy another one without current head issues, $1500, or spend more than that fixing if head gone (which is likely in your car), and still have a car worth $1500. I would put it on here with scrap price as reserve, and use the money to put towards another car.

tamarillo, Mar 26, 6:23pm
Yeah get another one and keep this one for spare parts.

andy61, Mar 26, 6:59pm
Buy another car but avoid getting another Mitsi.
