My 13b is noisey slow and uses alot of fuel thinking a1kz te out of a surf would be a better motor as u sit on top of one in the hi ace van campers an 85 delta v76hu,a14b engine is bloody dear, hard to get and not much more power any throughts

quad rotor would be the go, specaily since you are already a rotor fan and aware of their short comings

Might be easier to just bore the 13b to the first oversize, slightly more capacity will give you that bottom end torque you need.

A diesel engine is better for pulling a heavyload. A turbo intercooled 1kz will pull that load easy. Never seen a 13b in a campervan.

If your 13B is the non-turbo version, why not just turbo it? From memory, power of a 13B-T is very similar to the 1KZ,

3.4l diesel engine not a 1.3 twin rotor

the 13b isn't a rotary its a 4 cyl diesel thats in the land cruiser and a few others
might be better to turbo the 13b or fit a 15bt.

13 b iam ttalking about is an old diesel toyota with an in line fuel pump, could turbo still have a noisy engine and injector pump has to be shimed to adjust fuel up then theres the question how long will it go for
mono3,
Dec 20, 8:38pm
Iam thinking i can buy a surf for $2000 when all fished, sell the body and 13 b for $1000 other than my time wouldn't cost to much, being an old camper i won't recover much money if it had 5k motor in it at the end of the day

Sounds a reasonable plan, but I doubt you can buy a Surf or Prado with the inter-cooled turbo 1KZ-TE for 2k. Also, this motor has an electronically controlled pump so you need to use 1KZ-TE engine ECU as well.

It would depend what condition your toyota 13b (engine and pump)is in. Sometimes it is better to keep the engine block you have. A faulty injector pump can make plenty of noise on its own. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OFc8T5fVthU Injector pumps - some people are really good at repairing and adjusting any type of diesel injector pump and some you should avoid. There are 13BTs around http://www.taranakitruckdismantlers.com/engines.htm Also possible to supercharge rather than turbocharge the engine - maybe less heat to sit on.

LOL. I genuinely thought he was taking the piss, pretending he had a Mazda Rotary in his camper hahahhahahahahahaha.

don't forget surf 1kz is known for cracking heads. how long a cheap one will last for ? tho a big killer is overheating, especially if worked hard. 13b is very reliable.
not sure if 1kz would bolt up to 13b gearbox so you may be doing a trans swap as well. in which case you would need to find a 2wd gearbox to suit (unless camper is 4wd). need the usual engine mounts made, gearbox mount/cross member and driveshaft made. possibly new cowling for radiator fan. driveshaft hoop(s). possibly fuel line (not sure if 13b has the return line to tank). certification.
turboing the 13b or fitting 13bt or 15bt would require certification and driveshaft hoop(s). but its relatively simple conversion if its kept in the same family of engines. a whole lot cheaper than fitting a different engine.

ditto hence my quad rotor comment lol

A 1kz is a backward step. the 1kz is indirect injection,(fuel consumption penalty) a head cracker, and you still be left wanting more. Will not bolt up either. personally I would turbo the 13b. They have piston squirters as factory even as non turbo. Huge difference. I would recommend dropping in a 15b turbo but go for big money.

My13 b s bloody noisey old beast try ing to get away from that with spend as little as possible ,14 b would be the better to turbo i drove a non turbo and way quieter dont really want to spend that much

When was the last time you had the 13b compression tested? ot the injector pump checked? Do you have a favourite brand of turbo? http://www.turbo.co.nz/alltech/ Earmuffs are cheaper than a new diesel engine.

what sort of noise? could be in need of injector reco or timing checked, valve clearances etc.
