What cutting compound

mooy, Mar 8, 4:52pm
works well. I bought some Kitten compound from Super Cheap but it is not cutting the paint, went over a bonnet 3 times but it still has streaks over it.
What do you guys use?
Thanks in advance.

did you buy cutting compound ? And what are the streakes where they there before? you know you dont polish a car in direct sunnlight dont you?

There are quite a variety of cutters out there, the pros all have their favourites, be it 3M, Farecla, Juice, Mothers etc etc. How are you applying the compound? What buffing machine are you using and what is the buff head, wool or foam?
Steaks sounds an awful lot like you are trying to do it by hand and in warm sunny conditions.

Hi thanks for the reply's. I am doing it by hand but not in the sun, and yes it is cutting compound. The car is red in colour and while its been a while since I have done this I seem to remember that the cloth for applying the compound should go red as it removes a thin layer of paint, this is also not the case. I thought that the cutting compound may not be a good brand and I was seeking others opinions. Maybe I should get an electric polisher.
Thanks Guys.

Maybe your trying to cut the clear coat, which wont leave a colour on your cloth.

You will polishing clear coat i think. And you may find if you go over your cut areas with a lighter finishing compound it should take away the streaks.

Its best to use a buffing machine, doing it by hand will not get the same result as a buffer.

that cutting compound will say on it not safe for clearcoat use.

spend abit more and get meguiars ultimate compound ~ $25 at the moment iirc.

will save sooooo much time and give so much better result, even by hand

Go to a car painter and ask for a price to have car or bonnet machine polished, best way and never used to be very expensive.

mooey.-cutting a red car by hand is very very hard work if its faded back to pink. I would suggest doing it with a buffing machine.
Do be aware that you may well rub right through the clearcoat if its been cur a few times before.
Where in dauckland are you?
