The following is from http://revenueraiserresistance.com/camera-swindle/ It is too long to copy and past the full item, but it does shows how misguided some TM members are. Although it is written for WA, it has a lot of parallels with NZ.
. As previously stated, in my experience the vast majority of crashes occur whilst drivers are within the prescribed speed limits, due to inattention and ineptitude, and speed cameras do absolutely nothing to prevent them, yet, year-on-year we hear of the authorities pumping extra money into speed enforcement and devising new and wonderful ways to catch drivers exceeding the limits. If this was aimed at dangerous drivers then I would wholeheartedly agree with the policy, but it??
Referring to #1 which as admitted by that writer, was based only on one person's experience, these studies were based on experience of entire police force and actual data collected.
In the herald article, the road toll has gone up while speeding infringements has gone down by 15%,why is that.too many in attentive drivers I reckon.

Also impatience as people used to drive at around 100-105 on the open road but then they bring in the 4k over limit and now people drive at 95-100 so people get impatient and take risks to over take a car traveling at 95.

That's like saying the crime rate has gone up while the number of people arrested has gone down by 15%.

Nelson to Richmond last night 65kph ,a long line of cars we are all following a swift with juicey rental logo . why are people so stupid, what are mirrors for
Anyone who thinks 100k on the open road is too scary and dangerous needs to hand in their liscence today. You are an incompetent driver and a hinderance on the road. It's really that simple.

The misery will continue all the while we have a driver licencing system that puts no emphasis on the open road vehicle handling skills of the candidate. Its not rocket science to work out that NZ is so far behind other Advanced countries that we like to compare ourselves to in this area. Sort this out and a lot of issues will take care of themselves, but its not obviously going to be an overnight fix.

And that's the trouble. In another 10 years we will have a roadfull of drivers who can't drive at speed, so we will then be dumbed down to the fact that the speed limit needs to be lowered further.
Look what's happened with drinking drivers! I still get a laugh over that Ozzie sheila on TV saying that they had to drive home coz they were too pissed to walk. Twice in the last few years, I've been stopped from walking home from a Xmas shout by someone who emphasised that there were too many a/holes roaming around out there looking for victims to roll.

I genuinely do not feel the speed limit itself is an issue. if the limit is 90 or the limit is 120. Where there is an issue is failure to provide safe senarios where drivers doing below the limit and those wishing to do the actual limit can interact. Sorry if Im a stuck record but its fairly easy to sort out.regular passing lanes with dual speed limits.-left lane 90km/h limit. right lane 110km/h limit to 100m of lane end where it becomes 100km/h again.
Yeah but even then the guy in the green car has two empty lanes to choose from but drives along the center line! lol

Not a bad idea kaz, but imagine driving along the motorway at 110 then pulling into the left lane and having to slow down to 90. All the clitty's would pass ya at 95! What would be good is to apply FA tolerance to the left lane if there's vehicles trying to overtake, and allow the right lane more leeway. The dicks could do that without a law.
