Awesome piece of personal car history you have there.

In this picture, is that a massive legendary facial beard you're sporting? LOL.

As they say, "if you can remember the 70's you weren't there".

henreitta, Sep 27, 6:09pm
Just read thru most of it. thanks, very interesting. keep up the good work

rob_man, Sep 27, 6:37pm
Tiger for punishment, do you need to go through the cert process again?

Those monitor wedges are the same as my workshop radio speakers, which also serve as foldback occasionally.

tamarillo, Sep 27, 6:41pm
Wonderful read mate. Enjoyed that. want more!
Love idea that you kept it, I too got first car in 1973 age 15 and have no concept of keeping anything for long.
Great read.

rob_man, Sep 27, 6:45pm
Here's my last build, the Jag owning fraternity had a price on my head when I put a HP 327 SBC in this old girl. Sadly I don't have it any more.

Can't turn the Vauxhall into a Targa Tasmania Historic or Carera Panamericana car?

We used to say in the 80's, The Mark X was the only vehicle that was worth more after an engine swap than stock. Usually Chev V8's.

sr2, Sep 29, 8:38pm
Very, very tasty, what can I say. The Sweeney on steroids?

(We're all waiting for the reincarnation build thread).

rob_man, Sep 30, 5:11am
Well, I do have a freshened alloy Rover V8 and Toyota bellhousing adapter in the shed.

poppy62, Sep 30, 5:52am
Well done mate, always had a soft spot for Vauxhall (learned to drive in one) and backed them at the Wills 6 hour races in the 60s.

sr2, Sep 30, 2:09pm
Now that's a project, I love it!

dr.doolittle, Sep 30, 3:08pm
If I had the space I'd put it on some other sort of chassis & running gear just to drive it up to the gas station & around the block now & then.
I know I'm gona regret selling this.

tamarillo, Sep 30, 3:32pm
Except that's a MK 1 surely? Still, same point.

sr2, Sep 30, 7:35pm
Well I do know a bloke that has a freshened alloy Rover V8 and Toyota bellhousing adapter in the shed.

rob_man, Sep 30, 7:39pm
Simon, is that your brother that lives in Glendene with the fibreglass E Type?

sr2, Sep 30, 8:59pm
No i think you're talking about the guys who developed the Cheetah in the late 80's. My brother bought their prototype and over the years we've developed it into a very competitive Targa car, he's still capable of kicking our arse in the 135i from time to time!

It's now painted blue with Exeed Computing livery.

Far better to be able to look back on your life and say you pushed a few boundaries rather than having just meekly obeying the rules.

Go snoops me old mate, a little anarchy makes for a deliciously interesting life!

angelab, Oct 1, 7:58am
Simon, I was reading your entertaining thread from the start and wondered if you wanted others knowing about it. You are a natural at the storytelling. Lots of good buggers doing fun things on oldschool with no P.C. to clog up the gears. I like that it is anything goes on there and no one is gunna get upset.
