Hi everyone,I am about to buy a new hatchback. Please help me decide between, Ford Focus, Toyota Corolla, Mazda 3 or Hyundai i30. Looking at 2010 to 2012 models. Mostly do round town driving with the odd long trip.

Be up front with your dealer/s and let them know you are serious but need to test them thoroughly. Take them all for a drive around town and on the open road, which ever one suits you best would be my thoughts about those four cars as none of them are shockers or vastly better than each other.

My pick from that list would probably be the mazda, but it's just down to personal preference really. As the above said, take them all for a drive, make sure there's some open road and city driving included to see how they feel, and go with whatever you like.

how long trips and how often? 50km in one go once a week ?

ok but in one go no shutting down or stopping at a medium rpm range all the time ? if not forget diesel. because you will fill up the particular filter and then it needs forced regeneration during servicing and wear will be exessive on engine also with much more oil changes required caused by loads of faild self regeneration attempts by the engine controller. if a diesel the focus will be what to buy.
