CV and boot

If you have a noisy cv joint and a ripped boot is this a fail for a warrant of fitness?

intrade, Jul 3, 3:37pm
no but you still would want to get on to it. the cheap cv joints from supercheap have a boot that dont lasts long if it clicks when you are going straight then you should really replace the joint and boot.
Warrant fail is if grease flings out on to the brake system that is when they fail it as wof issue.

no.

but some dick inspectors will fail it if there is a bit of grease splashed around.

some of the reasons for rejection. e) contaminated by brake fluid, oil or grease. hey we didn't write the rules its just our ar's in a sling if we pass it.

It's not an automatic fail, but it should be.
Seems to be the only way to get some motorists to service their cars properly, is to enforce standards with the little sticker on the screen.
Poster 5 is a good example.

If the Cv boot was replaced as soon as it split, chances are the joint wouldn't be noisy now.

By the time anyone notices a ripped boot, dirt will have damaged the whole joint, so forget doing just the boot and do the whole joint, or better yet put in a whole new complete axle assembly with new boots and joints. A new aftermarket assembly is not much more expensive nowadays.
