If the flywheel is so stuffed that it's making the front pulley surge. It's going to be real noticable on the road.
Would it be freezing up ? Either Intrade has tweaked the settings, or it's got moisture in it .

re 25 thanks for the AC info i suspected i would need to rule out the ac fully. vw have a pulley on the generator a no return clutch type that does go faulty but i done the test for that it is still ok and then there is a spring loaded belt tensioner i put a screwdriver in to stop that bounce and the bounce is extreem harsh bashing against my screwdriver i used to try and stop the bounce so some more extreem force is causing the bounce its why i suspect it is the problem of the dualmass flywheel dancing abouts transmitting the bounce via the crank to the harmonic balancer and make the belt and tensioner bounce . I have disconnected the clutch of the ac compressor and there was still some bounce it comes and goes consistant with a faulty dualmass flywheel. i just wondered if the bounce could have upset the gas in the ac to make it shut down. Hope this is more clear as to why i came to this conclusion and want to rule out the ac before i remove the gearbox to fix the dualmass flywheel.

If you hold the revs up a little, double the idle speed say, does it still do it ? And is it still the same nearly or does it speed up in direct relation to the revs ?

Every car that I have seen has a pressure switch that monitors the overall pressure and stops the aircon working before the gas has dropped enough to not be visible in the sight glass. It hardly has to loose any gas to not work.

i could just order the new serpentine damper and the alternator free-wheeling pulley and see if it fixes it but thats swaptronic and i like to diagnose it correctly not buy parts just for good mesure and see if i guess right or not. I did have a similar problem on the mb 140 mercedes there it was soon obvious the shockabsorber damper was empty and did no longer dampen the serpentine belt, but that also has not got a dualmass flywheel so i was sure it can only be the shock damper fault.

I should lend you my book on noise and vibration and it's diagnosis. But it's a toyota book and is probably online.

You sure about that? Perhaps you'd like to direct us to a diagram that proves otherwise?

You want me to provide proof that running a compressor in the other direction doesn't make it heat on the side it normally cools?
Well I can tell you that is not how a reverse cycle airconditioner works. Running a compressor backwards makes no difference. It will do exactly the same thing. Cool on the same side and heat on the other side.
Refrigeration compressors are simple. With reed valves on the inlet and outlet sides. Reversing the motor doesn't change which side is inlet and which side is high pressure.
Heat pumps reverse the cooling and heating sides of the system by using a reversing valve, which swaps the high pressure outlet (hot side) from the outside coil to the inside coil, and swapping the low pressure side from the inside coil to the outside coil.
Cool thanks for that. I've always wondered how the reversal process was done. But you have to admit my basic theory of reversing the gas flow was pretty well spot on.

just been on a week long dealership training course myself. Got a stack of training manuals good reading

Yeah Matt. People think workshop manuals are the way to learn about cars. or youtube !
Workshop manuals tell us the process for diagnosing, dismantle, inspect and repair things. but they aren't training manuals.
They don't tell us how things work as individual components, or how the different components and systems work together. And that's where the stuff ups start.
A little bit of knowledge is a dangerous thing.

Youtube yes not a good idea if you dont know what is professional and what is cowboys who upload crap. So anyone whatched that video i recon it is top and a must whatch if you think of doing diy aircon one day.

Don't have time to watch the video now but will do so later. As for your aircon issues. Do the condenser fans work? If not it will only work just as you describe as the over pressure switch will activate. if it has an over pressure switch. Otherwise if there is a temp sensor monitoring temperature on the condenser outlet. Either the temp is too high or a fault with the sensor / wiring ect. Guessing there will be at least 1 a/c refrigerant temp sensor as there was a thread on here awhile ago. Where Jazz was complaining about how an auto electrician was trying to diagnose an "a/c not working" fault on a Audi.
As for the drive belt issue, see if it is related to load on the alternator. Measure current output from the alternator with the a/c on. And then load up alternator with the a/c off to see if problem still there.

just a note gents but in NZ last year they passed a law for people to handle refrigerants must have a licence. on top of that they must carry the correct documentation to be able to transport refrigerants in their vehicals. i haven't heard of any cases where this is being policed but i have a Refrigerant Handling Licence now plus the Documentation for transporting a gas just incase i get checked. i would say one day soon we'll get a Check Point search along with all the other trucks & they like to charge infringements with big fines to deter others.

What a strange law to pass especially when you can buy some refrigerants at bunnings etc (Under the guise of dusting products). As for systems being leak proof then my opinion would be no way on system with a belt driven compressor and a condenser in the path of stones etc.

bump this guy has now free download and pay items i know he is a professional his standards of teaching are ranking as high as you could get i would say So for people who are interested in how things are done 100% professional like my self whatch his free videos you will learn loads Savety is paramount and what he talks applys to any trade you kill your self if you dont know what you are doing one day otherwise . so time spent on his video could one day save your live because you learned for free important stuff. like going oldscool with simple green haha. i love him hope he dont dies soon the fat bugger.
