Funny watching auctions close & matching bidders

to those asking questions. & there aren't that many matches usually. It also seems the more definite the person sounds of actually owning the vehicle the less chances of them ever bidding, e.g. 'when I win this auction I'll pick it up & pay cash the next day so where can I pick it up from' . then watch for tumbleweed & listen for crickets waiting to see their name on the bidding list.

Agreed. Maybe really serious buyers do pick up the phone?

I haven't listed anything for some time, but agree with your comments re: the interested ones more often turn out to be not.
WHAT FRUSTRATES ME post-unsold auction though, is the inability to be able to find out somehow "what the bidders were possibly willing to go up to", (if had not reached a reserve/or no bids at all).
It's the same with a fixed-price offer, all they can do is refuse it RATHER than say "I would pay XXX" where upon you could then poss. sell it to that person at least.

That's not always the case.
I've asked a question - then sat back and watched.
But the bidding has gone past my figure, so I never fired a shot.

I have been the same. Or the last one I was interested in and asked questions for, once I got quotes for freight, it wasn't worth doing so didn't bid. Doesn't mean I wasn't interested in buying it when I asked the questions. Also the answer to your question could well determine if you bother buying or not.

thats 2 genuine cases out of the many many wannabes out there. Check out some auctions & compare the questioners (especially the rabid 'it's mine, it''s mine, I must have it' brigade) to the bidders

Na, I'm the same. I ask a question if I am interested in purchasing and I have a question. Depending on the answer, I may or may not bid.

Asking a question isn't an agreement to buy, or even bid.

whqqsh, Jun 17, 3:39pm
its not just 'asking the question' it's also the determination some have that it 'will be theirs' only to be not heard from again

Heres a 3rd 896493112, but agree anyway, re those doppy ones. Only a few actually bid, in my experiance too, but sometimes the answer to their questions can persuade someone else to bid.

I know what you mean. I was selling a 1 ton holden. 162 watchers and plenty of questions resulted in just 2 guys bidding. Even the guy who posted saying he really liked mine over another and wanted a buy now, didnt bid.
