Does anyone no what this is?

building a fence a couple of weeks ago at home, hit this thing with the post hole borer . got no idea what it is. got it sand blasted. the bit on the front between the 2 & 8 is a bolt. up to 20yrs ago it was just farmland.

angle adjuster control from a set of old discs, or height adjuster for an old hay rake
you may find that pre the rust those ridges were actually square cut grooves to accommodate an adjusting handle

there would have been a long handle pivoting on that bolt, and the handle would have had a grip that locked it into position as required
not sure if the 2 and 8 are merely indicators or maybe a date or particular model implement

Wow; And I was going to suggest a left handed Northumbrian spoke shavers easel!

lol, I should have prefaced my post with

"could it be" etc

Your answer sounds far more plausible than mine.

to be fair we don't actually know the measurements of it, the scale of size against the back ground objects could indicate it to be too small for either of my suggestions, perhaps it is more an adjustable rake for say a table saw or a standing drill clamp

Bugga and here's me thinkin it was outa that movie **tommyknockers** and it were being ole tommy's knocker.

What we can see though is that by the time the 3rd photo was taken the box of Lion Red was having an effect.

that second pic says its not a bolt to support a handle pivot, the axis is the wrong way

the bolt would possible held an adjustable stop - could be from the mechanism from the undertable of a tilting ripping saw perhaps

Mitre gauge from a table saw. Well, its half of one.

That is what I think too, from about 1950's.

Here is a modern one.

if you get a metal detectot you might find the rest of the unit (what ever it is ) ?

+4; but not nearly as exciting as a left handed Northumbrian spoke shavers easel!
