I havent managed to get to the main collection yet but saw the sampler collection at the Whangarei Town Basin last year, which is better if you are on a tight schedule. It is excellent value at only $5.

They only do guided tours, we were lucky and got the guy who built the collections son showing us around some of it, had some great stories of where it all came from, also his wife and a woman who is part of the trustees, all very well informed. There is something there for every bloke, the 2 hr tour turned into 3 1/2hr and only left as they were closing. The big shed out the back had that old shed smell, was full of great memories. As there was only the 3 of us and 1 other bloke we were free to wander around and enjoy.
