Roundabout removed

There was a roundabout with kerbing around it and that has been removed. In the middle of the road instead are three yellow markers sticking up about a metre. There are Give Way signs on the three roads. I drove around the roundabout and a car came from my left and didn't give way.
What's the definition of a roundabout?

normally the one in the roundabout has the right of way. but whom knows water flows the other way down the drain here also, so does common sens most times.

I looked at this recently, road code only says it's a central island in middle intersection that cars must go left around. We have some up on port hills like this, too small for a big island as some vehicles wouldn't be able to get around, so it's just a bump. Like it hasn't grown up yet.

I had another look. The person who didn't give way had a sign with a roundabout circular arrows and Give Way.

How does one get these signs? I would like to put one on the back of my car.

Whether there is a roundabout or not, on an uncontrolled intersection we are required to give way to traffic coming from our right.

In your example the other car was in the wrong.

Two cars coming from opposite directions, both turning into the same street. The one turning left has right of way (even though the other car is in a sense coming from their right).

From the description in #1, I'd guess the other car didn't realise they were on a roundabout, thought they were just on some intersection, so wrongly thought they had right of way.

I was making a U-turn around what used to be the roundabout. The other car was coming straight from the other direction. As far as the driver concerned I was doing a U-turn and expecting her to give way. I actually waved her on since she had stopped in front of my car.
The traffic island in the middle of the road has now been removed and replaced temporarily with three narrow yellow things sticking up.
I was driving from where the man is crossing the road and about to make a U-turn, and the silver car used to have to give way to anybody on the roundabout. I wasn't really expecting to have the right of way, but I always used to. See the sign for the silver car?

If the roundabout circle/arrow and give way signs are still there it is definitely still a roundabout! If you were indicating right as you entered and kept indicating until you reached the exit before the one you were to use, then indicated left, that other driver should certainly have been giving way to you.
If you were not indicating she may have expected you to be driving straight through.
We have some new roundabouts in Fenton St, Rotorua. We soon learned not to take our right of way when rounding them until we knew the other car was going to give way. On so many occasions drivers will charge straight through, oblivious to the fact that they are in a roundabout. Even a loud, discordant horn blast doesn't deter them!
