Decompression plates

Does anyone know a supplier in NZ or OZ or would it be easier to just take a head gasket into a engineer and get one made up?

What's the engine first, and can be a lot more trouble than just pulling the pistons out and machining the tops.

kinger7, Sep 3, 8:58am
hahaha yeah forgot that part. Its a LS2

Chev V8?

So once you move the heads up and out further, how are you going to seal the valley properly?
What are you going to do with the rocker gear?

kinger7, Sep 3, 9:06am
didn't think of the valley, guess I could just get the appropriately sized gasket made to go under the plate? didn't think of the rocker gear either. I wasn't planning on going to high, just enough so I can increase the boost

kinger7, Sep 3, 9:07am
hmmmmm a lot more to think about actually. Not just as matter of lifting the heads . .

Why the need to decompress? Forced induction? Pistons would be a better course of action.

mrcat1, Sep 3, 9:25am
Simpler and trust me a lot easier way of doing it is either using low compression pistons OR machining the tops of the pistons you have, been there done that with the plate idea on a 4.1 falcon engine, 2 head gaskets and plates and those engines prone to pulling bolts, so had to put studs in, machined rocker gear, it was a nightmare, just change the pistons, a lot easier and cheaper in the long run.

Thanks for the advice, I appreciate it. Was going to pull the motor out at the end of the season anyway to do the cam so may aswell just race this season as it is and give it a full birthday during the offseason . https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EDervj51F5k

Sorry missed this comment. Its supercharged but due to the high compression im limited to 4-5 lb of boost to keep things safe.

mrcat1, Sep 3, 9:34am
Wow, I hope you are getting a lot better times than 12.622 with a supercharged V8 now, the 4.1 6 cylinder was a cast head version in a Fairmont XD and ended up naturally aspirated and could do 12.2 no problems, had to run a fully tricked v8 trans with it though.

kinger7, Sep 3, 9:39am
No 12.622 @ 109mph was the fastest. I have a friend with a ls1 ute and he also got a 12.6 with only having the cam and usual bits done. I am running limited boost hence the reason for wanting to increase it.

I must admit there was quite a few v8's there when I used to go to meremere years ago, and I was quicker than them.

As above dont do it could affect rocker gear ratio / pushrod length , multuitude of choice of pistons for SBC from aftermarket at very reasonable prices .

just put thicker head gaskets on , get some multi layer steel ones, your not going to rasie it that much that its going to interfare that much if your only goint to go 1 or 1,5 mm extra
