Tourist Should Have Set An Example

ema1, Mar 4, 1:20pm
Read this, talk about tourists creating issues on our roads, this particular tourist should damn well have set an example.
Driving at 178km/h when he was picked up certainly blew that idea away and the excuse was pretty lame to say the least.
Not a legitimate excuse in my book. well not to justify that speed which more than likely could have added to the passengers problems?
More like a law unto himself, or thought he was so good he was above the law.
What a right smart arse coming here and thinking he'd not get caught, all to funny when actually it's all too serious in actual fact?
His excuse was totally lame as well, what a plonker !

I like that Judge.

'He imposed a $1000 fine, $130 court costs and disqualified him from driving for nine months.'

'Failure to pay the fine within 24 hours would result in a 21-day period of imprisonment.'

''If the fine isn't paid, you will be stopped at the border and taken into custody.''

I agree, who the hell do some of those so called professionals think they are. to my mind total idiot would be a very apt description.

So many questionable things with this "person" tho'.

Bankruptcy, liquidators, 'crowdfunding', trip paid for by daddy.

If he was an "upstanding" member of HIS community i would've thought he would say, "No dad, instead of paying for me to have a holiday on the other side of the world, give me the cash so i can start paying back creditors"

Oh well, he shown what kind of a "person" he is so he gets what he gets, good job.

Loss of license is a waste of time. tourists go home within a few days.

martin11, Mar 4, 1:39pm
Hope that the penalty is notified to the driver licencing people in his home country it would probably enough to revoke his instructor qualification .

attitudedesignz, Mar 4, 1:51pm
Only if he pays the fine, otherwise it's another 21 day holiday.

Judge said the speed was higher than even policemen would be happy to go. BUT not that many years ago we had the prime ministers motorcade travelling at higher speeds because she was going to miss a rugby game ( and she even said she didnt really like rugby as much as league ) . those drivers eventually got off .

rsr72, Mar 4, 3:14pm
#8-The official report into the Prime Minister's motorcade exceeding the speed limit made no determination as to what speeds were reached, other than to state that the journey was completed at an average speed of 128 kmh.

buyit59, Mar 4, 3:37pm
Sorry the highest speed reached was not the same as the tourists 178. Helens mob only managed 172kmh. They did AVERAGE 152kmh from Winchester to Tinwald . http://www.nzherald.co.nz-

You cant blame aunty Helen- as she said she was only sitting in the back- she couldn't tell how fast they were going.

178 ? in a rental?

richardmayes, Mar 4, 4:06pm
That's a fresh, creative take on the classic "but but but I'm an EXCELLENT driver so the speed limit should not really apply to me". I like it.

sw20, Mar 4, 4:17pm
Fastest cars in the world.

saxman99, Mar 4, 4:18pm
I agree, he must have been taking it easy.

tamarillo, Mar 4, 4:22pm
Indeed. If he truly is some kind of police driving instructor he would be used to high speed, as used in pursuit, BUT I understood they train this stuff in house so maybe plain old driving instructor is more apt .

rsr72, Mar 4, 4:30pm
The official Police Complaints Authority report into the complaints and into the subsequent prosecutions stated they averaged 128 km for the total journey. As said, the Authority did not determine speeds reached.

100 is the limit in NZ, back where he drives some of their roads have no limits
178 is only 115mph, my old mk3 did that regularly, the CL did a lot more

the old mk3 used to do it on the exact same piece of road heading back home from grey - and sometimes got passed by other traffic
