Paddy and Margaret are lying awake in their bedroom on the outskirts of Dublin one night, being driven half-mad by the next-door neighbour's dog, which has been barking incessantly for the past four hours. Finally, at 3am, unable to stand it any more, Paddy gets up, puts on his dressing gown and slippers and heads out into the night.
Five minutes later, he is back, but Margaret cannot help but notice that the wretched dog is still barking and, if anything, it sounds even closer.
"What did you do?" she asks Paddy.
"I've put the dog on our side of the fence," he explains, "and now we'll see how dey fookin' well like it!
