the weekend road toll. so why don't they review their actions when its a bad one? they really do the same old crap then take the kudos for a good result (which is bound to happen occasionally no matter what their actions) & blame everyone & everything else for a bad result.

now they have the traffic sorted, they can start solving burglaries

Bang on. Using that logic, the head of Police should have been fired after the Christmas holidays.
whqqsh,
Apr 7, 7:01pm
until the next holiday break that will balance the stats. & that'll be another excuse to screw down harder after that. talk about playing with the stats to suit themselves

pick a or b: A) the 'our plan works' story. For use when toll is lower than last years. B) the 'you're all incompetent fools and aren't listening' story. For use when toll is higher.
So sad they treat us with such disdain.

kinda annoys the crap out of me that they only go by the death stats. due to car and road design, deaths are a lot less now and a lot less injuries. if they went by actual accident rate, the numbers would be scary. especially if they factor in all the unreported accidents.

Do you have a link to where they are claiming the kudos? Because the only ones I have read are congratulating drivers.
klrider,
Apr 8, 5:57am
They just cant win with some people can they, road toll up, Police fault, road toll down, nothing to do with Police. Are you bright enough to see your own hypocrisy? Perhaps if you didn't look so hard to find fault your day would be less stressful?
whqqsh,

Ive seen it as the reverse AND promoted that way by the police
whqqsh,
Apr 8, 6:09am
quite a few times they've said it's proven THEIR strategy is working. I haven't heard any complimenting drivers, just the proviso 'theres still work to be done' or 'it's a good result for us but could be better'
intrade,
Apr 8, 6:12am
na its working they will say. we just have to write out more infringment notices if possible hand one to anyone they stop. that makes the roads save. am or does it. i mean that makes the most money accusing each and every one with infringment notices to generate more money for the frawdsters in the government its wose then the nazis and the usa are tricking any muslims in to being terroists now , i wonder when they adopt that strategy here, when they are not busy cranking out infringment notices i would assume. then everyone will be accused to be a ter.roist next.

Where? My point is that everyone on this thread to date(apart from me) is happy to put the boot in for Police apparently claiming the glory, and you can bet your bottom dollar they are the same people that would put the boot into Police should the road toll be up this easter. You will find that Police response usually congratulates drivers, not themselves, but people just want to find fault in Police so any spin will do.

i found driver behavior over the long weekend disgusting

"Inspector Pete McKennie said Police were pleased with the overall attitude of New Zealand Motorists this year" Its on stuff now. Have a read. I am not saying you are wrong, just that I have not seen any statements like what you assert. So I would be interested if you could point out where they have said what you say.
whqqsh,

& will continue to do so while they're passing out tickets for being 1 or 2 kms over the limit yet turning a blind eye to redlight runners, queue jumpers, lane changers without indicating etc etc etc (& yes Ive seen these & many many more in plain view of police on duty)
klrider,
Apr 8, 6:30am
But one has nothing to do with the other. Now you just seem to be grasping at straws to stay on the anti police band wagon, you are exposing your true agenda, find fault no matter what.

huh i dont drink its way to expensive in every way with this rediculess low alcohol rules . wonder when we wont be allowed to drink water also in this country or maybe they make water 10$ a bottle as its already the worlds highest along with food that got even more expensive , no where in this world will you find higher food prices per income.

The vehicle crash rates are used, the Crash Analysis System that is in use allows queries of all type to be made on the database compiled from the Traffic Crash Reports that are completed by the cop that attends a damage or injury incident.
There was a study ( in Christchurch I think) ) where reported ( to police) crashes and injuries were compared with hospital, GP, ambulance, insurance company and car repairers records. The degree of under reporting was roughly inversely proportional to the severity of the incident as would be expected.
I do not remember the exact proportion, but more than 50% of all crashes where there was damage or injury were not reported to police.
All this is taken into account by traffic engineers and planners, police etc.

Yep - heard the same on a Radio NZ this morning interview.

Geez there are some whingers in this country! , we have a low road toll and people still complain ! Get a life ! While one is still too many we should be grateful that many more NZers were not killed over the weekend. Could have been you or I.
I dont care who is responsible for the actual road toll coming down but we should take it more seriously than many of you on here. One idiot on this thread even mentioned that queue jumping is more of a priority than speeders ! Pull ya head in would ya !
whqqsh,
Apr 8, 7:35am
not complaining about the lower road toll, I think its great! my point is that any time there's a low road toll the police use it to justify their campaign yet say a high toll is a 'blip', 'against the trend' or an anomaly Funnily enough I don't see many comments or discussions as 'complaints' & we'd be a pretty sad nation if we didn't talk about things for fear of being labelled moaners, whingers or haters. I find it more amusing when these names come out within minutes along with tall poppy, sexist or racist. Getting to the stage no one can say anything without being labelled something, yet its ok to name call in the same breath. funny that
